#Panthers K Graham Gano's 79.7 touchback percentage (63 of 79 KO for TB) is the top mark in NFL history per STATS, LLC

 

Congrats to him.  It's definitely beneficial for our defense to have 80 yards of real estate behind them following close to 80% of kickoffs. 

 

Should have made the Pro Bowl.

Great accomplishment. This is a stat that I think needs to be discussed more and more as we move forward ever since the kickoff line was moved up. And not to take anything away from Gano but it will probably get broken by him or someone else very soon. I think it's only been 2 years since the line was moved.

Special Teams play has been a big part of our success.  Nothing flashy, but consistent play all around.  Gano not giving opponents a chance to return kickoffs is huge to me.  Nortman pinning teams back inside their own 20 so often is excellent as well...

 

Having the dominant D we have with opponents consistently having to traverse 80 yards to score is a big deal.

Our Special Teams play was horrendous in 2011 and 2012. It has been stellar this year. It is no small coincidence that we quit losing so many close games this year. It's really a much more important part of the game than people realize.
