Shula Play-off Solution

Cpt slay a ho

Recommended Posts

Seems alot of you are not happy with shula's play-calling..........understandable(i don't see a big problem with personally).

People calling for his head obviously isn't going to happen,My question is moving forward into the playoffs what are somethings you think he can improve on to give the offense a boost with the current roster?

IMO Lafell should be the guy coming in off the bench, his starting role should be given to either ginn or hixon........Lafell is a Fine 3rd wr but clearly guys like Hixon and Ginn are making the most of there snaps.

MORE TOLBERT! IMO guy needs at least 12 touches per game, the guy is a difference maker

Probably one of the biggest thinks is getting rid of the designed cam runs, I'd rather him go with a pass-run option for cam unless it's in the redzone.

Nobody is recognizing that teams have all taken the same avenue to attacking the Panthers offense lately, and that's to put as much pressure on Cam with eight and nine man boxes to force him to beat them downfield. Cam doesn't have the weapons to do that consistently, especially with Steve out; it's a structural flaw in our roster. Now, the upside to all of this is that we continue to win despite all of that, and we have a lot of experience now in grinding out those kinds of games. Furthermore, those strong offensive teams in the playoffs lack the kind of defenses that can get by with that kind of gameplan, and we've played close the teams that do have them (like Seattle.)

Hixon isn't scaring anyone. He's not going to create match up problems. He's just a guy, a veteran. A ton if mileage on him. He's not a starting WR on a playoff team. He will dissapear mostly in any extended role.

Now 5% of the time, Lafell can create a match up problem or make a play. He's a bigger body with more tools. He isn't obviously good but I think you get what I'm saying here.

We need to see more of Mcnutt if anything

His play calling isn't always questionable, but it is more times than it should be and in the most terrible situations. Like Tolbert getting the ball on a screen 3rd & 15. Other than that its just moving the ball on a consistent basis, but I'm going to wait to see what he does with more reliable weapons & OL if we get any come offseason before I totally put that on him. But a common statement I keep hearing by commentators is that we aren't built to come back from being far behind, and I agree. That means we aren't expected to have a chance to score on any given possession. I'm glad we've made it this far, but this can be an issue.

i disagree about the hixon part but do agreed about mcnutt. Lafell's route running is lackluster and seems he can't make a high catch even though being 6'2, Lafell has literally not made an impact these last two games with smith being out, I do believe his snaps need to be given to hixon or mcnutt.

In regards to the WR corp, we really don't have anyone that can go up and get a jump ball. LaFell? Hixon? Ginn? Not happening.

McNutt flashed that ability. Time to give him more time as others have said. I'm convinced that LaFell relies on Smitty and Olsen to take away attention from him. He's a guy that can't create separation and consequently his own opportunities.

IMO, the biggest difference lately is the fact we went away from the quick throws to the WRs on 1st down. Those quick slants, WR screen type plays that got us an easy 5-6 yards. Then we would get 3 yards on a 2nd down run, leaving us with 3rd and short. We were converting a poo ton of those situations.

Lately we have been running on a lot of 1st down. Whether it is to flip the script and confuse the Defenses? I don't know. But it is no where near as effective as those quick hitters to the WR we used to run.

Those plays, and Cams continued high throws are keeping us in tougher 3rd down situations.

I agree that teams are stacking the box stopping the run and making Cam beat them with his arm.  Cam has a history of throwing high in the early part of the game getting us in a situation of playing from behind.  Quick short throws early in the game will settle him down and loosen up the defensive line allowing us to get our run game going.  Our O-line is not good enough to blow out their line early, so we need to make them play honest and give Cam moe time to throw.

Some of it has been mentioned...  quick outs and screens will help... get the ball out quick.

Lafell just can't catch... sure a few of Cam's throws were high, but catchable...  he just didn't.

Hopefully we'll get Smitty back and the single biggest thing that they can do imo is let Cam loose.  Tell him to use his legs to get yards.

It's the playoffs... pull out all the stops.
