Panthers likely to begin contract discussions with Cam this Offseason

I know you should be ignored (that's how you earned your pink skirt for proclaiming "Geno's better than Cam", etc.). But call I'll take a stab. 

 

Then why don't you give him a better offensive line, and play calling when you're at it. Cause I guarantee, when he talks to the Panthers they won't tell him "you need to improve your accuracy and lead receivers" as you?

 

Every NFL highlight and game I watch, I see multiple receivers make one catch in a game, that the Panther receivers may not make during an entire season. 

 

Cam will get big money if he wants, for a multiplicity of reasons (the franchise us relevant again; JR; Cam's own relevance; his promise; others teams would kill to have him, etc.). It's a wrap!

 

Take Cam off this team, and see how much games they win? Cam's actually compensating for awful talent and play calling, as he did during his first two seasons; except this season, it's being done in a different type of way. 

 

I don't know about you: But 6'6" 260 lbs (yes, that's closer to his actual size); rocket armed; fast; pocket presence; coachable; strong; burning desire to win,  young QB's just don't grow off trees. The guy is only 24 years old, and some of you guys are criticizing his accuracy. SMH

 

Look at how accurate, patient, and how he read the defense today, when he actually had time to throw on that 2nd TD. 

 

Those are the type of things NFL people notice in a 6'6" 260 lb, strong, mobile, elusive package, who can stand and deliver!!

It's almost like some people here don't like and/or are jealous of their QB. 

 

No one here is saying Cam Newton is the best QB in the NFL, or even top 4-5. 

 

However, his size, throwing arm, ability to read a defense, elusiveness, and upside (combined with what he's done for the Panthers), would have multiple NFL teams serving him sacrifices at the altar.

 

It's a combination of his amazing potential, what he's already created, the current market, his tremendous size and abilities, and upside, along with those accomplishments that would have NFL teams salivating for him on the open market. 

 

It only takes one team, owner.

I don't hate Cam but he does need improve on his throwing. Which he should he is only finishing his 3rd year in the NFL. Right now he is a $15 to $18 million a year qb. Which I will be happy with. But to say he deserves $20 plus a year contract I can't buy into that right now.

Drew Brees (HOFer, Dozens of NFL records, Dozens of franchise records, great stats every year, Super Bowl ring, playoffs etc) and Peyton Manning (HOFer etc etc etc) are $20M QBs.

 

I love Cam but...

Like I said, those guys don't work hard for their PASSING stats. They're in HOFers solely for the passing stats. It's not that hard to throw the ball to 6'6 recevers like Colston and Graham. Where is Cam's 6'6 receiver? Where is Cam franchise receiver? Yet Cam is carrying this team to the #2 team in the NFC. Cam is a QB and a play maker. Way more valuable than just a QB. Cam is 2 players in one. He makes up for what his team lacks. His #1 receiver is out today he made up for it by rushing the ball 12 times for 72 yards. 72 yards seems like a number Steve Smith normally put up, wouldn't you say.

I think that's the problem. 

 

Many Panther fans don't know the value of Cam. 

 

Though we love to complain about media people's view of him (whether real or for publicity's sake on their part), he's highly regarded amongst NFL people and observers that truly watch the game (who know a good QB when they see it, and not just a good system, playmakers protecting/making him look better). 

 

I heard two NY radio guys who I hold in good regard recently (i.e., they actually watch, and just don't go by name or media memes), go down every QB in the league vs Eli Manning for the next 4 years, and they both said "Oh NO" so quickly and strongly for Cam Newton (along with a few others), it would have made your head spin out of the ten they selected. 

 

I don't think Many Panther fans realize how much Cam is really worth (on the open market, or to the Panthers). 

 

They would, if he had play making receivers, a better OC, and/or if when he leaves!!

 

Sadly, a lot of Panthers fans just don't give a rats ass about Cam. All they care about his him helping their team win. Get them a SB ring is all they care about. They will sit and more inferior QBs over their own while stating Cam isn't good enough because he's not playing like some Vet with 15 years of experience. In the meantime, they will completely overlook how far Cam has brought this team in three years and how much better he's done it than those "elite" qbs they enjoy comparing him to. 

 

IMO, the constant picking apart of Cam's game is intentionally done to simply continue the myth that Cam "isn't good enough." That means unlike the Luck, Stafford, and Bradfords, Cam will always have to BUST his ass with whomever is around him to look good. While those young "chosen" QBs are already seen as "good" so those around them will have to BUST their ASSES to make them look even better.

Because they probably internally hate the idea of Cam getting $20 mil a yr. That's my only conclusion? They'll never say/admit that of course. 

 

I agree with you. It's all speculation. People don't have to take it so seriously, or vehemently disagree with it. It's an opinion. 

 

Cam may not even care about squeezing every dime out of the Panthers. Of course, much of that is up to his agent, and  Gettleman, if JR doesn't butt in of course?

I guarantee you, if Cam went to free agency there would be teams bidding for his service. Especially, big markets like the Jets. Cam with Rex Ryan and that defense would be insane marketing-wise. I'm sure it's better business for the NFL when big markets are competitive in the playoffs. It took the panthers 9 straight wins to finally get some attention from the media.

This might be the only team in the NFL where you could cut every WR on the Roster and replace them with UFAs and still put up points & wins. This is no joke how bad this WR corps is. If I were Cam I would tell management to pay me the additional salary they'd normally give to a franchise caliber receiver. It kills me that not one receiver could step up today.

As I've said before, when the QB is getting more rushing hards than his running backs, and is blocking Defenders better than those whose job it is to block for him, it's on them, not the QB. But some Panthers fans are happy when the media spins everything that is clearly not right with this Offense and make it about Cam ebcause they join in. Cam needs to 'trust his receivers more."  Interpetion: We can see those Receivers suck but so what. When he give the ball off to the RDs and they can't get any running game going, it's Cam's fault. When he sits in the pocket and takes the hit and his sack numbers go up, it's Cam's fault.

 

That is all I read on here these past three season with some of these fans.

In short, this franchise and fanbase gives Cam no reason to be loyal to them. Cam reminds me of the Eagles with McNabb a few years back. They ran the guy like a horse and only gave him some skinny dude named Pinkston as a receiver. And for the one year they got him a franchise WR(Terrel Owens) they went to a superbowl. With better management the eagles could have had multiple super bowls during McNabb's tenure. I hope Cam is smart and informed enough not to allow that to happen to him. This team could easily be a super bowl favorite for the next 3-4 years with a franchise QB and Cam should demand it because he sign any long term contract. He should put pressure on management to do their job.

Let me put it this way. Cam still has some ways to go to get better. The guy is good, but not elite good. To many people think he will get Romo Manning type Money. He might get close, but want happen. I believe Cam will take a solid contract with good money run with it. It Camis a smart QB and cares more about building them and winning. Then he want be Brees and rob the Panthers pay roll of 25% of the cap for the future. If Cam wants a good oline next year. He will work out and take a good contract and don't break the bank. Goes the same for Hardy. If all these guys care about is the money more then the team. Then let them walk. You don't build winning teams off of greed. Ask the Pats or GB or Steelers. Their team was good for many years because players decided to take less to keep the team together. So hopefully our players think that way. I want both Newton and Hardy to get paid for they deserve. But at the same time they must think about their team mates like Keek and Star in the coming years when their contracts come up. Either they get good money, but don't break the bank or let them walk and we move on. Again Greed doesn't build a winning team.
