Panthers likely to begin contract discussions with Cam this Offseason

Some serious talks will be had with Cam for sure....

GMan:  So you remember how bad it felt those first two years when we lost more than we won

Cam:  I do..I do...some of the hardest years of my life as a player

GMan:  We understand you did a lot this year with a few more weapons but nothing great other then smitty and olsen to throw to at this point.

Cam:  True, but my Oline is makeshift at best with a few solid pieces.  Hell we have a DE playing on the line this year and starting.

GMan:  I understand.  So lets give you a good contract that allow us to better Oline, a WR on the free market or draft, and will give us a little wiggle room to resign Hardy.  That Def is pretty elite and man Im sure you feel better when we are in the lead and they have our backs.  (instead of saying man thank god that Def saved our asses half the year)

Cam:  True.  I had a nice long talk with MJ and to create a Dynasty you have to make changes.  I want to paid, I know im not elite yet at throwing but man i can do things no one else can.  Remember I got you a ring this year too.

GMan:  True.  Ok 16 million 6 years 40 million guaranteed.

Cam:  ok here, lets do 15 million 6 years 50 million guaranteed.

GMan:  ok done.  as he keep staring that new superbowl ring.

KEEP POUNDING!

I don't think Cam is his own agent.

No!

He would  still get $18-$20 mil a year (if you're talking a multi  year contract). But he would get more money upfront, to off set the salary Cap.

No way Cam takes a multi year $16 mil a year contract, after "only" making $4-6 mil a yr on his Rookie contract.

Nonetheless, I'm sure they'll find a way to work it out to help everybody.

Gotta rememeber

P.  Manning 5 year 96 million  (ok big risk, big reward)

Brees  5 year 100 million  (suprebowl, playoffs, great passer and proven leader)

Brady  5 year 70.6  (wants to win, takes less.  wife is super rich and he makes a lot off endorsements like cam)

Flacco  6 120 million (ridiculous)

Eli Manning  7 106.9 million  (two superbowls)

Stafford  5 76.5 million  (good passer with elite WR.)

Rodgers  7 130 (look what happens when hes gone, luckily their division is horrid)

Romo  7 year 119  (crazy.....)

a lot of these come in around 15-18 million, differnent guaranteed of course.   I like cam being around 15 with higher guaranteed.

KEEP POUNDING!

i wasn't joking when i said this earlier last year.

I think Cam is going to surprise people and take less because he wants to win so bad.

I realize that these are two completely different sports especially when it comes to physical risk, but until Jordan's last three years with the Bulls, he wasn't even top 20 in the league in salary, for that very reason.

If both sides want to get this done and don't nickel and dime each other I think we could get this done fairly quickly, and although Cam will get what he deserves I don't think he will try to hold the team hostage like Drew Brees did.

I hear what you're saying. But those Flacco and Romo contracts (along with inflation/Cam's value to the team), will escalate Cam's contract, unless HE decides to take less from the Panthers (which is probably one of the reasons why he says "I'm not even thinking about contracts". That's stuffs messy. I'm sure he doesn't want to deal with it, until he has to (possibly till next season). Lol

Brandt and other experts say contracts for players and coaches alike all boil down to the same thing: market economics. Last summer, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan signed a five-year extension worth $21 million annually, prompting Newton to tell The Charlotte Observer he was worried only about winning and not about comparing contracts. Good answer, but unlikely to be shared by Bus Cook, Newton’s agent. Cook didn’t respond to my interview requests.

Ryan and other top quarterbacks — Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay), Joe Flacco (Baltimore) and Drew Brees (New Orleans) — all make more than $20 million per year. All have far more experience than Newton and, with the exception of Ryan, all of them have won Super Bowls.

A former NFL executive who discussed the Rivera and Newton contracts with me on background told me the Panthers will be motivated to sign a contract extension with Newton sooner rather than later. He puts Newton in what he calls a “B-plus” group of quarterbacks: “I like what he’s done, but I want to see consistent accuracy in the pocket, and the way he plays, he could get hurt.” Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub might be comparable, the executive said. Schaub signed a four-year contract extension in 2012 worth as much as $62 million, though his and the Texans’ fortunes have dimmed this season. However that sorts out with bonuses and incentives, it still adds up to much more than the $5.5 million Newton averages in his contract. Carolina has an option year on Newton in 2015.

The former executive projected Rivera’s next contract to likely pay him in the range of $4.5 million to $5 million per year, almost double his current average of $2.8 million.

Seems right. Cam isn't getting $20M per year unless it is a quirky structure but he will get a very nice contract.

$4.5M for 4 years was my prediction for Rivera. The article notes that Fox was making $6M

Great article. But you imagine how upside down this organization would have been had they listened to the media and went with Gabbert. That was freaking close! Rivera would have been fired last year because they'd probably have won maybe 1 or 2 games as there wouldn't be any end of season winning streak. Isn't it amazing how teams are just one good decision away from being relevant.

Hey Rodney Harrison, we will now remember your name when NBC doesn't renew your contract.

That had less to do with Jordan "wanting to win", and WAY MORE to do with Jordan making $30 mil a year off the field in endorsements, so it didn't matter as much. Lol
