Did we just lose Greg Hardy discount...

the only thing of substance that comes from getting selected for the probowl is that you are automatically more expensive.

sure, it's cool that your guys got the "honor" to play in that sham game that nobody watches, but what your guy gets for being popular is more money. for a team trying to keep good players under a small amount of cap space this is a huge problem so....yay us for now making it harder to keep players we want to keep around. but hey, at least you got your guy some recognition. i'm sure that the teams that benefit from us not being able to pay all of our players will appreciate that we got some guys noticed.

Like I said, the guys who do take less money do so for other reasons that benefit them.

Tolbert came here bc it benefited his family. Bring them home. That made up the difference for him. You also will see older players in search of a ring do it.

Hardy has no wife and kids he is looking to make happy.

Tolbert and him don't compare. Tolbert wasn't a single man looking to cash in one a huge 2nd year deal. He was a middle of the road player who had other priorities bc of his family

a middle of the road player that just made the probowl, a popularity contest based on name recognition

i wish we had more middle of the road players like him on the team

but neither of us knows what hardy is thinking

Tolbert was what he was when he came here. He took less money for reasons that had a lot to do win things nothing related to our football team.

The FB designation also greatly aids Tolbert in this popularity contest. His work as a RB is ultimately what got him the bid....gives him stats most FBs don't see.

Hoover poo'd all over Tolbert as a real FB. No one would have thought of him as a PB outside here. In the traditional sense, Tolbert is more RB than FB in usage. His lead blocking isn't a common thing.

hoover was no howard griffith

Hoover was a top 2 FB in the NFL for a period. Gotta little recognition bc he was a FB that played for the Panthers.

Tolbert can play the role of RB MUCH better than Hoov. Tolbert doesn't compare as a lead blocker to Hoov.

I'm going to enjoy our playoff run and let DG worry about it in the offseason. I love Hardy and hope we can keep him but we can't break the bank on him especially with Cam's contract coming up. Of course you try to resign him but we need to think a little like the Patriots here and stop ruining our cap space over 1 or 2 guys. Alexander was looking really good(not saying he's Hardy but he could become close)  and I think can contribute if Hardy is wanting Peppers' type money. I am not worried about our D as long as Ron is the coach ,he has shown he can get ALOT out of middle of the road players. Our offense on the other hand needs an influx of talent ASAP

Hoover was never a top 2 fullback. He was playing in the era of Tony Richardson, Lorenzo Neal, Mack Strong, Laron Mclain, Fred Beasly, etc.....all guys with multiple pro bowls and/or all pro selections.

I think Hardy is sincere when he says he wants to stay a Panther.  If he didn't I'm pretty sure he wouldn't come on this board shelling out pie on the Huddle.  A lot of us are facebook friends with him and have had conversations with the guy.  He's to good to the fans to not like playing here.   We need to find a way to keep him, and I'm sure we will.  We just really need to find a way to get Stewart's contract off the books.  Keeping the Kracken might also mean this is Gross's last ride.
