Aaron Afflalo To Charlotte?

Orlando might listen to MKG, Biz, and a 1st.

Otherwise I can't see it happening.

Hes not worth that much, that would to much for a guy in a breakout year. The hope was that Orlando would take the bait due to the fact they are in a tank race with 8 other teams. They are not trying to win but double down on their suckage and get another trade asset and young big guy.

Idk how much weight I'd put into the rumor, but I think it would be a good move if true. Actually provides much needed scoring and outside shooting, and I think he'd complement Kemba and Al extremely well. Problem with the trade as we are hear in it right now, is that whose spot would Actually be taking? Hendo? MKG?

So, I think its possible one of those two guys are getting moved as well, and it wouldn't bother me at all to see if we could pull Mo Harkless in the deal as well.

Why I dont like it? Because after telling other fans how Biz was a career backup with little potential to grow, this year he has really impressed me. I'm proud of Biz, and I think Al has rubbed off on him. He puts himself in much better position offensively and he just gives us outstanding minutes every time hes on the floor. Has he become starter-worthy? It quite, but he has vastly improved so I hate to feel like we're giving up on him now, BUT, it would be a good trade for both teams.

Doesn't surprise me that Biz is being mentioned either despite his improvement b/c IIRC Cho did not mention him as a core piece in his end-of-season presser following last season.

I feel like Orlando could get more from a contender or some team thats 1 piece away

No kidding. This has been one of Bill Simmons trade machine ideas before, sending him to OKC for something like Lamb, Perkins (make ORL eat his contract), and 2 1st rounders.

Lamb and 2 1st round picks far outweighs Biz and Portland's...maybe even Detroit's pick. If some of the rumors about Westbrook/Durant moving on after their current contracts, OKC's 1st rounders could prove very valuable if you catch them with low end protection in the right year.

This equals NO RINGS

so why do it???

Because people around here think that the NBA isn't a league where the team with the most talent wins, it's just finding the right chemistry with a group of average players that can kick the feet out from under the Heat. It just doesn't happen that way.

Sadly the "tanking crowd", is the realist crowd. If you follow the NBA, you know that teams rarely win championships with stars. As in maybe once every 10-15 years. Star driven teams rule this league. This isn't the NFL where "anything can happen" in a single elimination playoff format. Just getting to the playoffs shouldn't be the goal. If you're going to be a bad team, you need to be terrible or lucky at drafting for a good while.

The fact that we have been awful and we don't have a true franchise player to show for it is a mix of our ineptitude in drafting and the fact that we've been unfortunate from day one. From missing out on Howard on what was basically a coin flip for the Magic between he and Okafor to the debacle of drafting Sean May, Adam Morrison, D.J. Augustin, etc.

We have NOTHING to show for how bad this team has been in terms of established talent. We have patched together a team with pieces that wouldn't be starters around most of the league. Our starting PF/C is Josh McRoberts who was basically given away.

We are horribly average. We lose to bad teams. Terrible teams. Sometimes we win against good teams too. But if you're a .500 team in this league you're worse than treading water you're setting back your rebuild.

This mismanagement isn't going to get it done. Signing a free agent to keep us from being embarrassing is a deviation from Cho's model in OKC. We're in the Durant year of his plan and there is Durant level talent set to be available and we're looking unlikely to be in position to take it. If we don't get it, then the extension of Henderson and the signing of Jefferson will be the biggest reasons.

Charlotte has gone the tanking/draft route. hasnt exactly panned out.

Understand that, but the only true way to have success in the NBA is to get superstars.  The best way to get them is to tank and/or get lucky in the draft. Being good enough to give away you pick which is worth more then any pick in next years draft is a horrible strategy. No other way to slice it.

In the NBA you've either got to have one of two things to be successful.

1. Large market attractable city to lure superstars.  Or.

2. Get lucky in the draft and land a superstar or two.

This team and it's lack of true talent desperately needs all three of the picks to land in this years draft. Anything other then all three is a major setback for this franchise.

sooooo...tank every year until we finally get lucky and draft a star? i like taking my chances of kemba becoming a star and signing al jefferson, star in his own right, to help kembas progression. Adding afflalo, still having 2 picks and lots of money equals opportunities to trade for a star.

The Pacers have assembled a damn good team without high draft picks. Scout and draft correctly and we can too. With the stupid lottery nonsense there is no way to know if we would get a top pick IF we did tank the season. Kemba and Jefferson give us a start. 1 more really good player actually makes us attractive to free agents and you would still have 2 1st rd picks and better assets to trade if needed. If you think that somehow the Hornets would end up with the top pick over a team like the Lakers you are crazy. We just got burnt by Stern going that route. Did that taste so good that you want another?  If the system was like the NFL then tanking might make sense but the NBA draft is fuging rigged. Some of the best players of the last few drafts weren't taken 1-3, unfortunately we didn't pick them when we COULD have. Get this team someone who can score 22-25 per game from the wing anyway that you can and then we have the makings of something.
