Huddle question.....running a four WR formation on occasion

Is it just me or have we moved away from using the pistol? We had a few games(I want to say during the Giants,Minny, maybe Rams) that we used  it and Cam looked good out of that set. But I don't remember seeing it the last 5-6 games or if I have it was 1 play or so.  If I have a beef with Shula it's that he goes away from something that is working whereas the Pats, Saints, etc smell blood when they find something that's working against you and beat you over the head with it until you stop it. And it's not that I'm in love with that formation specifically but their are times we put Cam in sets that he obviously looks more comfortable in but we move away from them really easily in favor of standing Cam back there in a 5 -7 step drop. In general I've seen less bunch formations, motion, basically the things that  were helping our Wr's get into space earlier in the season.

We don't run 4 receivers because receivers don't pass protect. Even if Olsen goes out on a route he chips a pass rusher, same with Tolbert. We don't have a dominant offensive line so we need our backs and TEs to at least be a schematic blocking threat.

Everyone hates the wildcat because it's boring but it's usually good for 3-5 yards. It's not a negative play, it just doesn't have a high ceiling.

Don't expect our offense to reinvent the wheel. It's not gonna happen on December 26th. I am very pleased with our offense, we are deficient at offensive line and receiver yet we score enough points to win. Our offense could put up more points at the risk of turnovers. You saw when the chips were down Cam took chances, he threw guys open and made plays down field. But to do that on every drive will result in interceptions.

I would love to see more options used.

Brees threw to 9 different guys in the first half vs us

We HAVE weapons... but for some reason I never see them even tried to being used.. Brandon Williams... Taveres King... Barner.. never used for passing. Dunno man.. Dunno...

We have the members.

It's a numbers game. All of those guys you named have been inactive a ton. Barner has looked very poor when we used him. Harstock and Brockel are active when healthy and not considered weapons. Tavares King is a rookie and we don't go 4 wide. We go 3 wide but not as often as most teams. You are comparing us to a Sean Payton offense but our OC is Mike Shula. Just think about that.

It seems to be that a wild cat play would have its asset in the unpredictable nature of what would happen after the ball is snapped...........but in our case its always the same thing...........Williams in a running play right into the line.

What is so unpredictable to a defense with that?

Are we waiting for the NFC champ game or the SB to really fool someone??...........(sarcasm off)
