Possibility for Luke to win the DPOY

Awards are nice, wins are better.

Here's hoping that Quinn has the game of all games this weekend with 2 forced fumbles and six sacks leading his team to an upset win over Seattle.

Panthers home throughout the playoffs is worth more than any individual award

forget dpoy.

keek is making a case for nfl mvp.

can anyone here imagine that we would have the success we've had this year without him?

btw, i love that cam is in the discussion for it, but honestly keek should be in that discussion as well because he's every bit as vital to this team as cam and it could be argued that he was more instrumental in many of the wins.

No way Keuchly gets NFL MVP with Peyton Manning breaking the season TD record. He has it in the books.

Edit: No way anybody gets NFL MVP, but Peyton Manning. There fixed it.

frikkin peyton manning robbing our guys of their awards.

TD should have had comeback player of the year last year and would have had it if it wasn't for pencilneck manning.

i just hope we get a chance to rob him of his second lombardi. that will show him.

I found that ESPN article before I read this thread...   The Patriots fans butthurt in the comments section is hilarious.

Keek definitely is in consideration for this... for that alone I am ecstatic.  Quinn, Burfict, Sherman, Matthis and maybe a couple of others have a legit shot at it too...

It's just cool to have a guy of that caliber on our team.

TD should get some recognition as well... to be playing at the level he's playing after three knee surgeries is just legendary.

I don't understand it, in such a passing-happy league, why is it that big a deal when one quarterback throws 5000+ and 50+ TD? It WILL happen when you pass that many times.

If it's not Manning, it's Brady, if not Brady, it's Rivers...

But can anyone do better in Keek's role on Panthers' D?

Basic defense? In that case, Quinn has no shot in hell. Sherman should sweep since interceptions > sacks.

Tackles are not important? Now I'm questioning your football IQ.

I don't know where you're getting your stats from but three missed tackles all year in 2012??? He had four alone against the Seahawks. Aldon was listed as one of bottom-tier run defenders in league by DVOA.

Ummm, no. Aldon had a three sack lead. In addition, with the sack record within his grasp it didn't matter what Watt was doing as a DT/DE. Had Smith broken it, he would have taken it. In the end however, it was Watt that continued to dominate in the final stretch while Aldon disappeared.

OMG. Your comprehension is really lacking. I think you need to go back and read my posts to understand what I'm even arguing.

And where did I say tackling is not important????

I use PFF stats which is >> Outsiders DVOA. He had 2 missed tackles in the Seahawks game and only one in another.

So 3 sack difference is not close? Ok then. And again, he has hits ans hurries, so he didn't exactly disappear. He was still getting pressure, just not sacks. And if Aldon broke it and JJ was like only 1 or 2 sacks behind, there would be a legit argument for Watt because he plays DE and he's an elite run defender with ridiculous amount of batted passes.(Watt probably would've still won)

Not reading 70 posts to see if this has been stated, but people who know football know that Luke has not only been great, but he has made a very average defense great.  Yes--very average.   Before some of the simpletons blow a gasket and start spewing ESPN stats at me, read on:

Defensive Ends:  Johnson, Hardy, Addison, Alexander--not elite, but solid without Kuechly.  Still, double digit sacks by the ends in a 4-3 is expected if the defense is to be dominant.  This is the only unit that was above average.  With the QB engaged in a chess match with 59, the DEs become a secondary thought.

Defensive Tackles:  Star, KK, Edwards, and Cole--2 rookies, an aging vet, and a guy who spent 2 years out of the league.  Keuchly aligns the DTs and causes fewer double teams because teams send guards to block him and TD.  Without solid LB play, these guys are aging vets and rookies.  Still, Star and KK have been great and this is not to dismiss their efforts.

LBs:  Blackburn, Davis, Kuechly, Klein:  I think the way Klein played during Blackburn's absence says it all.  However, Davis and Kuechly are having pro bowl seasons.

S: Q. Mikel, Mitchell, Lester:  Mikel was an aging free agent that nobody wanted.  Mitchell was a bust from the Raiders who was a special teamer and backup.  Lester was an undrafted free agent rookie.   Enough said.

CB:  Munnerlyn, White, Florence, Thomas:  Would any of these players start anywhere else?

This group forms the best defense in the NFL.  This does not happen without LK.

By the way, LK has one more tackle this year than he got last year, when he led the NFL.  He has a game to play.

we have a very heated debate here ladies and gentlemen...

I wonder how "heated" this debate would be if Quinn hadn't played football for an irrelevant local school. I'd wager not very.

Toss up between Kuechly and Quinn. Anybody trying to make the case otherwise is a tard or a tardhole.

I just want to add something to this...debate.

Luke is widely considered the best LB in the league. He is a legitimate candidate for not only DPOY, but MVP as well.

There is a realistic possibility that Luke does win DPOY. Especially if we win the Division. The best player at his position, on one of the best Defenses in the league, on a Division Winner. Yeah, Luke is all that.

Quinn is having a hellofa year, no doubt. But everyone, and I mean everyone, loves Luke.

And yes, he is 1 tackle short of lasts years total. He may not lead the league again this year. But he will be close enough for the folks that matter.

I would rather have the wins, no bout adout it. But you are kidding yourself if you don't think Luke has a very real shot at winning DPOY.
