McNutt to get a jersey...Lafell,Ginn,Hixon and McNutt to carry the load

Why are posters crying about the wildcat? We haven't used it since Miami. Definitely not in yesterday's game. wtf

I guess if that's all you have to complain about (given that you have to complain), then good. just stfu.

We did run it once yesterday.

That being said, I agree with the sentiment.  We have run over 900 plays this year, and we have run the wildcat less than 10 times, and yet it gets talked about more than just about any play we run.

Because it's unanimously agreed upon by fans to be the worst call possible in every situation it's ever been run this year.

Not feeling this much. McNutt is the more seasoned player and that's more than likely the only reason he's getting a jersey.

Nows the time when you wanna see if you have somebody, and King is more likely to be that guy.

Have to disagree here. Now is not the time to be taking chances in terms of personnel. If you have a guy who is a "veteran", knows where to line up, knows how to run routes, and won't cost you then you play him and not the unpolished but high potential guy. The time for finding out what you have is the preseason, not the middle of trying to secure seeding in the playoffs.

If we get to the point where we need McNutt to make a play, we've already lost the game.

Definitely not unanimous.  :)

And out of the few times its been used this year, its worked more often than not.  By worked, I mean gained more than 4 yards.

Don't get me wrong, its not a great call, but once every couple of games doesn't hurt anything.

Edited to add, I am bored watching the SF/Atl game, so I went back and looked it up.  I counted 6 times that we ran it this year, for 24 yards total (including the one time we used it yesterday.  The average is about the same as our normal running game.   Not a really good play, but certainly not the disaster it gets painted as.

Watched him a lot when he was in college...couple of friends are big Iowa fans and my wife went to Penn St. So, we watched a lot of B10 football.

Guy made a ton of plays. Maybe he has a few in him for next weekend.

As a State man, I have been watching Big10 football for quite a while. McNutt was a pain to cover. He always seems to be open. Too bad he had to play for Iowa. Although Stanzi used him as a crutch, he still made a ton of plays.

If he can bring any of that to the field, he just may be able to help us out a little. Although, I really don't expect him to get many plays. Let alone many, if any, touches. But what the hell. Why not?

Well...if you say so.

Really?  I may have missed some but I went through our games and looked at Dwill's ypc.  obviously this is inexact, but I looked at how many yards gained and then found the difference between Dwill's YPC to see how we did using the wildcat.  first of all, even before that, we got under 4 yards using the play 4 times out of 7, and we haven't done well with it lately at all.  Not since the first few weeks of the season have we done better with the WC than just letting Dwill do his normal thing.

Just doesn't seem like a smart play at this point.

vs NO(2)

0 yards (Dwill avg 5.6 ypc)

-5.6 ypc for WC

vs Mia

3 yards (Dwill avg 3.1 ypc)

-.1 ypc for WC

vs NE

1 yard (penalty on us meant this play never officially happened, Dwill avg 1.75 ypc)

-.75 ypc for WC

vs SF

4 yards (Dwill avg 5.8 ypc)

-1.8 ypc for WC

vs NYG

8 yards (Dwill avg 5.2 ypc)

+2.8 ypc for WC

vs BUF

2 yards (Dwill avg 3.9)

-1.9 ypc for WC

7 yards (Dwill avg 3.9)

+3.1 ypc for WC

total, +1 ypc for WC

McNutt isnt exactly a grizzled veteran and I was speaking more to where we are at at WR than I was referring to the point in the season.

Ran it once against NO for 0 yards.  I don't count the fake, because we didn't actually run it.

New England doesn't count.

Ran it once against the Giants for 8 yards.

Ran it twice against Buffalo for 9 yards.

Ran it once against Miami for 3 yards

Ran it once against SF for 4 yards.

That is 6 times for 24 yards.  24/6 is 4 ypc.  Our average ypc is 4.2, and I imagine if we look at just the running backs, its closer to 4.

Like I said, its not a great call, but using it once every couple of games doesn't hurt us, and gives the defense something to thik about.

Its not really a big deal, I am just surprised a play we have used about 1% of the time gets so much "oh no, not that again" reaction.  If I didn't watch the game, and just looked at the huddle reaction, I would think we were running the wildcat 10-15 times a game.

The reason the Huddle flips out is because there is nothing at all that Dwill can do with the ball that we couldn't have Cam do, unless you want Dwill to run some kind of halfback pass backwards to Cam...

It's just not a good playcall, and it's kind of baffling why we bother given what we have as other options.

It seemed to kill momentum last week, too.
