NCfan's mock (updated)

FA:

Hardy- No brainer need to lock this guy up.

Charles Tillman- Rivera connection and strong front 7 with needs in the Secondary, should be able to get at a decent price

Nicks- no way this guy gets big money, his stock is really low right now.  Perfect spot for him to come.  Hometown with player he grew up watching.  Teams biggest need is WR, needs somewhere to come in to help rejuvenate his career.

Ginn- best returner since Smitty was back there.

Draft:

1st: Benjamin- Cam needs weapons.  He does get sacked but as it is showing more and more the later season goes on, our WR cant get open and Majority of the sacks he has a solid amount of time in the pocket (no less than most of the other NFC QB's) plus has shown ability to scramble and stay up (similar to Big Ben when they won the Super Bowl with one of the worst OL in the NFL).  Smith also isn't getting any younger and just had a knee injury yesterday that we are uncertain how it is.  Benjamin could be that #1 (Cam also has a tendency to throw high when off, a 6'5 Benjamin could be his best friend on the team)

2nd: Bradley Roby- Big Talent who before the season thought would be the first CB off the board.  With his off the field issues this summer and off year this season combined with the Deep CB class many feel he will fall late 2nd early 3rd.  Rivera is Defense Defense Defense.  We already have the top front 7 in the league, might as well beef the DB's up.  With Veteran starting opposite in Tillman, well known respected defensive coach as HC, a DB coach as your DC.  This would be the best position for Roby who some question him after his off the field issues.  Our 2 Corners now are alright but would be Much better at Nickel.

3rd: Donte Moncrief- again super deep WR class so several Gems will fall.  Also our biggest need is weapons for our franchise QB.  Now we do have a big need at RT, but with a Talent such as Moncrief sitting in our laps in the 3rd you have to jump and and more toys to Cam's toy box.

4th: Cameron Fleming- Solid Run Blocker,  better pass blocker than Bell.  Good enough at RT with the 3rd string OG going back to 3rd string OG.  If Andre Williams falls to us in the 4th, you jump on that.

5th: Spencer Long- Was potential top 100 prospect but tore ACL,  tough Run Blocker (should give Kug competition if comes back to form)

7th: Raijun Neal-  Need to grab an RB with unknown future of Dwill/Stewie with the team

That would be ideal, but Oher is going to cost a pretty penny, Nicks on the other hand the way he is falling off shouldn't.  Also if we got Oher I don't think we would resign Hardy IMO due to $$ dished out to Oher.

While that would be a lot dumped into the WR's Smith, Benjamin, Nicks, Moncrief, and Ginn (would primarily be returner and backing up Smith in the slot).  Nothing is certain, we could bring in all these guys and none pan out, but the odds of at least 2 of them breaking out is good.  This would allow Smith to move to the slot.  Smith in the slot and 2 other guys showing the 4-6 seconds you even get with Bell at RT would be plenty of time for Cam and Cam scrambles around ala the miami game someone will be open and it wont end up him throwing it out or getting sacked.  Bell is bad and I believe that you should even get a guy in the 4th that would be better than him.   So might as well use the deep WR class to our advantage and still land a Talent like Nicks who could easily want to come here/home for a reasonable price.  Nicks may not even sign for a big long term deal (probably a 2year or so) so he can come in and rejuvenate his career and maybe shoot for the big contract he thought he could get 2 years ago.  If that happens you still have a Moncrief waiting in the wings playing under the vet.

if your going to go the double dip on WR route than the Hakeem Nicks FA should be replaced with Micheal oher or another RT.

but I agree with your premise to get as many weapons as possible

I see were your going. I just don't think oher is going to cost that much either since he has had a down season also. but your talking about having basically 3 new recievers along with smith. just don't think double dipping is good if we can get Nicks to. we need a future LT and a Run blocking RT right now. I think we should take 1 need each round bpa or WR CB and OT

I agree with this. I think we would be able to sign Nicks to a cap friendly deal and Oher shouldn't be terribly expensive as he is better as a RT and is not as good @ LT. Then we can get a Jordan Matthews in the late 1st and James Hurst (eventual replacement for Gross) or La'el Collins in the 2nd. Don't forget we still have Bruce Campbell on the roster and his size and athleticism may warrant him a long look as an eventual replacement @ LT this offseason. If Campbell could somehow be a serviceable starter on the left side, then Collins would be a good plug-in at LG (I'm not completely sold on Silatolu), giving us a potentially dominate left side. On the right side, I think it will come down to Kugbilla and Travis Bond, though Kugbilla could also be effective @ LG with some development. Plug in Oher @ RT to replace Bell and we have the potential of a dominating OL going into the 2014 season.

Guest shitposting

I hate the idea of drafting a WR in the first round. I'd go CB, WR, OT, WR.

Our defense is arguably number one this year. Why would it be worth taking a CB in the first when we have so many glaring needs on offense?

Hardy: pay dat man!

Would love to see Tillman and Nicks in Panthers Unis.

Love the Kelvin Benjamin and Bradley Roby picks. Also like Moncrief very much and would be amazing to get him in the 3rd, but like said above doesnt make much sense to double dip on WR if going after Nicks. Would look for an OT in the 3rd: Morgan Moses or Seantrel Henderson.

Things to think about

Our front seven is ferocious and the reason that we have made out okay with a bunch of rookies and second year guys in the secondary.  IF you resign Hardy and basically keep those seven intact, then I see no reason to spend a 1st or second day pick on a CB.  Our young guys are only going to get better.

Second, if we resign Hardy, there will not be a lot of cash to throw around on FA's.  Nicks, I don't want, neither do I want an old, now hurt, Tillman. I think Hixon can start here next season alongside Smith and get a good guy or two in the draft to bring along.

Would go

1st  OT  A good guy could fall like Lewan or Cedric

2nd WR Benjamin is raw and might make it here

3rd WR  Figure another good one, maybe Coleman

This is where I would go, we have Amani coming back as a G, along with Kugzilla, so I would not spend a high pick on G

4th-7th is on backups in the mold of Klein who was a great pick and might make Blackburn expendable at seasons end.

If we plug a Lewan in at RT next season, he can learn the speed of the game for a year and then go to LT when Gross retires.

Benjamin is raw but athletic.  Doubt he starts right away, but can learn the pro game and eventually be our Megatron

Do not think that a lack of playmakers is our only issue.  If we don't sure up the OLine, our QB will be running for his life and never hit any playmaker

1st round - RG 6'3" 334lbs  Gabe Jackson (what we need in the OL is consistency and injuries have ruined it every year.) Top rated guard that can run block and pass protect.

2nd round - WR- 6'5" 230lbs  Kelvin Benjamin

3rd round- RT 6'7" 347lbs Corey Robinson

4th round- TE

5th round- CB

Kelvin benjamin will not be there in the bottom of the second. We still have to hope the combine doesnt shoot him up the draft boards

    • No one is allowed to criticize XL unless you want serious clap back. He’s just one of those players that is immune to criticism on this board. But sorry that I don’t expect week in and week out drops, body catching, jumping for every ball when you don’t have to, horrible spatial awareness from a 1st round WR. He has so much to work on that it’s insane these issues didn’t drop him to atleast the 3rd round during the evaluation process. To make matters worse, the best RB today was a 4th round RB we could’ve waited later for and gotten someone like Cooper DeJean who filled a need in the 2nd who a lot of posters were pounding the table for including me.
    • Keywords there "Playoff offenses".  They might be the a huge piece, but in every case there, they are not the only piece.  might be a good run game, good QB, or great coaching.  Meanwhile yes we have a good RB, but we're still like 24th in Rush YPG.  Other Recieving options?  basically all rookies.  QB?  A guy who was benched after 2 games and just now learning the NFL.  Hell we have a rookie coach.  It. Takes. Time.
    • His route running has improved as the year has gone on, but the gator arms show up every week. From all accounts he works his ass off, so let's hope he continues to do so this offseason to improve his hands catching.
