DeAngelo Williams appreciation thread.

You stated this. Implying he needs to be an edge rusher to be effective. I pointed out his TD run yesterday was up the gut. He can be effective anywhere. As he is 1 of the few true playmakers we have. He just doesn't get enough touches.

Not going to go that far about our O-line. They are not the best, nor are they the worst. But abysmal is not a word I would use to describe our O-line.

I do think that unless blocking is good, he does need to get to the edge to be effective (true of most backs, but he doesn't have the ability to run people over like Tolbert - i mean, not many do), and his average ypc to the sidelines is like 1 yard higher than it is up the middle.

I suppose abysmal is too strong on the o-line but we really struggle along most of it.

DWill has shown this year that he still has his burst. Stewy can't see the field. Barner is still a work in progress. And Tolbert is...well Tolbert.

Given that, who would you keep? DWill and Tolbert. Yup.

Fix the line. It keeps Cam upright, and allows us to run the ball more effectively. We have capable backs. But and average line. If we want to take that next step. We HAVE to fix the line.

Ok, I'm done with this one. Been fun for sure. But it is just going in circles.

It is going to be very interesting to see how Gman plays this. Going to be a fun off-season that's for sure.

I predict a few Huddle meltdowns as this plays itself out.

I agree with you RE: Dwill and Tolbert, all else being equal.  Dwill stays healthy and runs hard, and he is still explosive - I didn't mean it to be a knock to say he'd lost some of it, he's still a great player.

But the contract we have with stew means Dwill is the more likely casualty.  It makes me sad, because Stew can't stay on the field and Dwill continues to show what he can do when we get some decent blocking.  We'll see what Gman can do.  I have hope he can make it owrk.

Dwill does need to be appreciated as I am a huge fan of his but also a harsh critic this past season.

Double Trouble was also best when we used a zone blocking scheme. That type of blocking is since gone here in Carolina. Anyone in the NFL other than Houston use a zone blocking scheme? KC maybe, ATL does.

I have no idea what Gman has planned. And Stewy is just an enigma. Beast of a back when healthy, but how often is that?

I do see a poo ton of restructures again this year. But that only does so much to help in the short term. Fug...I hate the fact that we even have this problem. Some good backs, with some bad contracts.

Does the team like Barner as a piece going forward? Who gets cut? Who stays? I am just glad I don't have to make these decisions. I have a hard enough time trying to figure out what type of ice cream to buy.

I agree. I like Stewart, and he is a great weapon...when he is healthy. Deangelo has shown he is still a very valuable piece of our offense. I think we have a great one-two punch in DWill and Tolbert, with potential in Barner. Stewart takes up cap space and doesn't have enough production the last few seasons to warrant it. I think (gulp) he should be shopped, at the very least.

I always have mad props for DWill. He is my boy! By far my fave Panther on and off the field, I don't even hold that he's a Grizzlies fan against him.
