DeAngelo Williams appreciation thread.

I was watching BP's highlight reel (which is awesome btw), and just realized how many game changing plays D-Will has made for us this season.

Minus is HUGE fumble in week 1, he has done a very solid job.

Think about where we would be without these game changing plays in the last few weeks.

San Francisco- He had a huge TD run to take us from losing 9-0 to 9-7.

NY. Jets- 74 yard screen pass for a Touchdown to change the momentum.

New Orleans Saints (Home)- 40 yard touchdown to give us the lead from 6-0 to 7-6.

I know he is paid a lot of money, and hasn't been consistently spectacular this year, but I think he deserves some credit for making big plays in big games.

I'd personally prefer more 5-6 yard carries than 1-2 yard drive killers and an occasional homerun

It's better from a ball control perspective

I think we all would.  However it seems like there is never any holes to run through.  Even on that long touchdown run if Wharton didn't pull and make an outstanding block then it would have been another 1-3 yard carry.  Our OL is smoke and mirrors.  Our rushing yards per game is smoke and mirrors.  Everyone talks about the Carolina run game but realistically if not for the threat of Cam Newton we would probably have the worst run game in the league.  The reason is our OL is not very good.

Edge schmedge. His TD run yesterday was straight up the gut. He ran through an arm tackle, then outran everyone else.

Even when he gets some love, it is convoluted.

Not edge smedge, the OL Is awful and only once in a while gets a decent block up front.  DWill is amazing but the OL is abysmal.

34 is the man and needs to continue to be the feature back heading into the Playoffs.

Stew may work his way in a bit but I don't want a game plan formed around 28 when he cant stay on the field.

This a million times!! The man has earned it.

1st play of the game he broke it outside for 7 yards. He is still capable. But he still only gets, what, 12 carries. That just isn't enough touches.

He should get 2-4 screens a game, as well as some plays out of the backfield. He may not be DWill of 08, but he still has packs a punch if used correctly.

Then again, with our Offense not getting 80+ plays. It is difficult at best to get what few actual playmakers we have enough touches.

I love me some DWill.  I hope we find a way to keep him next year.  He's not as elusive as he once was but he's still a quality runner when they can get him to the edge.

You stated this. Implying he needs to be an edge rusher to be effective. I pointed out his TD run yesterday was up the gut. He can be effective anywhere. As he is 1 of the few true playmakers we have. He just doesn't get enough touches.

Not going to go that far about our O-line. They are not the best, nor are they the worst. But abysmal is not a word I would use to describe our O-line.

    • Panthers are clearly not worried about cap space so why are we?
    • Other than being the offseason and there isn't much to talk about, why does anyone worry about the cap? We can do whatever we want and still have cap space. You don't think the front office hasn't already figured it out and what they intend to do. Me I am just sitting back and watching. After all my job isn't on the line if we lose. Although at my age we don't have forever if I am going to live to see us play in another superbowl
    • I get the TD's and I pointed it out, but like I said, when Burrow had more than double the TD's than Geno had, I think Higgins increased TDs compared to DK was more a product of Burrow and the Bengals offense than because of him vs DK as WRs. When one of their QB's finished 4th in MVP voting despite missing the playoffs and the other was just traded for a late 3rd round pick and replaced by Sam Darnold, I think that's a tough narrative to brush aside to just look at raw stats as well. Again, swap DK and Higgins last year, do you honestly believe DK wouldn't have put up better stats than Higgins did? Contracts and trade compensation aside, I'm taking DK over Higgins 100 out of 100 times, there is no debate about it for me.
