Shula....coaching

I think losing steve smith altered our gameplan quite a bit. Cam also needs to throw the ball away and not take 17 yards on a sack. We needed to start using tolbert as soon as it started raining too. Part of the reason our defense didn't get a sack on drew brees in the second was because the saints weren't really throwing it when it was raining. They're terrified of weather. It worked out for us and hopefully we learn and move on.

I'm worried because Shula is getting worse as the season goes on.  I agree, where was Tolbert?  I'm hoping he was nicked up or something because not using him all game was a terrible decision especially with Cam and the offense's passing woes (and Smith going down).

it's tough to point the finger at  play calling when a handful of better throws from newton would have made the offense look 10x better.

Agreed.  And there were some times when the receivers could have worked harder to get open and maybe come back to the qb.  And offensive line didn't do much at all.  Very few holes for the running game.

Fwiw, while I am not a big fan of Shula, he does have one tremendous advantage over our last offensive coordinator.  The offense makes fewer mistakes during crunch time with Shula's offense, and that is part of the reason we win the close ones.

Are we seriously complaining after a great win like this?

Your team isn't going to show up every single game. Good teams wins the close ones. Good teams can win even when they don't succeed on offense.

There is no reason for us to be complaining about coaching and play calling after we win.

Rivera punted. It was the right decision. We would not have picked up the first on that fourth down.
Also, our offense just wasn't performing well until the final drive.

Take a deep breath.

We are going to the playoffs and, barring a bad loss next week, will have a first round bye.

Go Panthers!

I expect a ton of offensive turnover during the offseason. our offense was inept for 90% of that game, and was equally bad the last few games. I wouldn't mind seeing Shula with a bunch of shiny new toys, see if he's more creative with better talent.

I am concerned seeing the WR just stand around, though. they don't seem to be being coached to move around to get open on an extended play.
