I Have Arrived in Charlotte

Recommended Posts

I'm also going to be in town this weekend.  I used to go to games all the time when I was a kid (from Asheville).  But I've only been to Charlotte a couple times in the last 7 or 8 years.  I'm trying to decide where I should eat tomorrow night.  I'm definitely looking for some bbq and/or soul food.  So far suggestions I've seen here are:

Macs Speed Shop

Midwood Smokehouse

Lupie's

Any one care to tell me more on which one I should choose and why?  Or have any other suggestions?

First, I must admit to you that I am white and have not eaten in Charlotte in about 7 years.

But there is a place off Morehead Drive--across from BOA stadium, a tiny hole-in-the wall that has the best soul food.  I think it is called the Cup.  A friend of mine took me there and it was outstanding.  Check the hours--could be a lunch only place.

Sadly, the Coffee Cup was destroyed about 3-4 years ago.

A few tips:

Since Maine is above the Mason-Dixon Line--practically Canada--you might need to convert your currency.

Don't visit the NASCAR museum. A simple drive through Kannapolis on Saturday night will suffice.

The tea is sweet here without having to ask for it.

The Klan no longer goes after all ethnics, non-protestants, and northerners. They quit that stuff a while back. I think it was October. Still, to be safe, especially if you happen to be a Black/Hispanic Yankee Catholic/Jew, wear your Panther gear and say "Y'all" when ordering your tea.

He's in Charlotte, not Gastonia. You don't have to say y'all when talking to New Yorkers.

Midwood has better BBQ than Macs. Midwood has a pretty good beer selection but Macs is much more extensive.  (IMHO)

I envy you guys at times. I've yet to attend a game in Charlotte. As a South Floridian, they'll always be an issue.

The past week I've spent my time in Tokyo, Japan with my employer but as much as I love kickboxing I wanted to be there North Carolina cheering for my team to slaughter The Taints.

You have plenty of time. Just work hard and save up.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat downtown, try The Kings Kitchen on Trade street.

Great home cooked food and the profit from the restaurant all goes to charity and the homeless. The guy who runs it also employs mostly the homeless and struggling people. It is a fantastic cause.

The food is excellent and the service is fantastic....those working there are so appreciative of the opportunity they are being offered.

We eat there all the time before Bobcat games. Dinner usually costs me about $15...and I usually give a $50 tip to my server. I know they appreciate and really need it.
