Charlotte can't do what the Lakers, Heat or NY do to build teams, the City doesn't have the allure those other ones do. They won't have the money to challenge the tax or go after superstars or really good players in FA. All they have is the draft or super overpaying for decent players with major flaws.

It's either loose till you get the draft right a few times in a row or the best you can be is an occasionial 8th seed. That's the ceiling of this team with Jefferson, Henderson, and McRoberts starting.

So basically the Rockets of 30 years ago before the lottery was the last team to tank and win an NBA championship.

No way a team with David Robinson, Dominique Wilkins (even if he was old), Sean Elliot, and Avery Johnson were "tanking". The Spurs were decimated by injuries.

The Cavs are right back to being terrible again, and OKC. hasn't won anything.

Not to mention there doesn't appear to be a Lebron or Durant level talent. Parker maybe but he seems more like a Melo to me.

Yeah, count me out.

18 games with back Spasm!!! A whole season for Back Spasms, Tendentitis holding out Elliot for the majority of the season. Most of those injuries take a player out for a few games, some players play with back spasms.....

Those are the actual injuries that the team had that season.....

When you tank you have a terrible roster. You get that one good player but everyone around them is terrible. By the time you build up the roster, their rookie contract is over and they are headed to LA or NY and you are right back to being terrible again.

The teams that stink, usually continue to stink. There are franchises that have been tanking for years and it never seems to work out for them. Maybe they will get there one of these decades.

I would rather get there through trades and FA with a solid core through the draft. That is how good franchises seem to do it.

You have to follow the OKC, Pacers, Early Hornets model and get 3 drafts or more in a row right, with at least 1-2 of the players you get being superstar level players or close to it.

Do you trust are management to get three drafts in a row to be a success when the best player they have ever drafted is Kemba Walker.

It's not if I trust them or not, they are going to have to do it. Charlotte isn't exactly a glamorous city with a whole lot of pull FA wise. They have to follow this model and get a few drafts in a row right to build a solid foundation.  It's either that or forever be in a cycle of get to the 7th or 8th seed, get blown out of the playoffs then rebuild.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I could care less if they make the playoffs as an 7th or 8th seed just to get blown out each time they make it. Generally in the east a 7th or 8th seed isn't very good and is a .500 team or worse. That's not winning or being successful at all.

That's just a mediocre team being covered up by the fact that the east has been pretty weak minus the top 2-3 teams.

I'm under the impression that if you have money and you are willing to spend it, then you have a chance to be successful due to the fact that the NBA is a business first. MJ finally looks like he is willing to spend money (I believe this year is the first year ever that Charlotte has spent into the luxury tax).

I've heard the whole argument "Why would a big time free agent want to come to Charlotte" repeated over and over and I can give you three... $$$... If you pay them, they will come (i.e. Al Jefferson). Now some will say that Al Jefferson isn't a big time player but in my opinion he is a top five player at his position and if you have enough players that are consistently ranked in the top five at their position then you can be successful.

This is just my opinion, but I've always seen the draft as a source to retool not necessarily a source to rebuild (i.e. Portland and Indiana who were literally one player away from competing). There's the argument that you have to have a superstar to win a championship when even having a superstar on your team doesn't guarantee you squat (Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant)...

I'd rather see the team try to win basketball games and take a more cautious approach in the draft (Biyombo, MKG, and Zeller were all risky picks, Walker and Henderson were safe picks and they are two of three best players on our roster) and spend money in free agency rather than just rest on our cash.

That's just my two cents.
