Saints Starting Rookie Terron Armstead At LT Sunday...

Peyton is a smart guy, he wouldn't put the kid out there unless he was ready to play. Maybe I am over estimating him but I remember his combine runs and comparisons to Joe Staley

So because he's fast that means he can play LT well enough to shut down Hardy his first time out the gate? Sorry, that's ridiculous...

When I meant combine runs, I meant overall performance at the combine, different drills and such

There's a reason most of the combine wonder kids don't pan out. In actual games he's a guy that's much better in space, and struggles with DEs who can be physical with their hands. He gets thrown back a good bit from a guys power moves. Hardy can, and should get the better of him IF the Saints are ballsy enough to leave him in too many 1-1 matchups.

then why have they not had him play any offensive snaps?

also, is it that armstead is ready to play or is it that payton is just tired of brown and just wants to try something different?

Armstead was drafted to be the replacement starter at LT but they wanted to give him time to develop and build up his lower body strength. The nfl analysts graded him as an immediate and he had an amazing combine. He played some special team snaps recently so looks like he was getting him ready to play soon anyway. He has even been on injury report the past few weeks with some sort of nose injury meaning he must have been getting 1st team reps.

Bottom line the guy was raw with amazing potential at preseason, so it's was just a matter of time to refine him. Also, Brown is still available to play and against Panthers 2 weeks ago, he had the second highest pass block grade behind Strief, so Payton knows he has a guy that should have no issues with Panthers rush since Brown was solid and allowed zero pressures, zero hurries, and zero sacks 10 days ago and that was with him not getting any help. I'm sure if Armstead struggles, Brown will be extra motivated to try to get his position back and play a good game. We will see as I'm still not sure if Saints can win this game the way they have been playing on road.

lol nose injury means first team reps?

bwhahahahaha.....

Well Payton mentioned it in presser he was getting first team reps, but didn't say for how many weeks so I was just saying the fact he ended up on past couple injury reports may mean he has been getting 1st team reps for a few weeks or else I don't think they would have bothered to put him on report. Just a guess based on the fact he has been on the injury report, not because of the type of injury.

I doubt this rookie sucks.

If they are willing to start him against da kraken, in a game of this magnitude. ..he's gotta be pretty damn good.

With that being said......

Release the Kraken!!!!

again...if he was "pretty damn good" then why has he only been active for 4 games and not seen one snap on offense?

So are you intimating that SP is somehow trying to set his team up for failure?  Or maybe he senses that they are going to not fair well against our D so he is building in an excuse so he doesn't have to take the blame?

I mean if you dont accept the assertion that the rook is better than the guy he is replacing and gives the Saints a better chance at winning what other possible explanation is there?

I dont think this kids is going to be the next Anthony Munoz, or at least not this weekend, but dude has to be substantially better than the guy he is replacing to make up for his inexperience.  Again SP is no imbecile.
