Any idea why short hasn't earned a starting spot next to star?

I mean from what i've seen he's been every bit as good as Edwards when allowed to play. You draft a guy in the second round i exspect him to start. He's proven to be one of the best pass rush Dt's in this class so why not let him play like one.Don't get me wrong Edwards hasn't done anything to lose his job and is playing beyond servicable. But the question remains when is it Short's time?

I think it depends on the rotation they want to use to match up. Our big thing is shutting down the run and Edwards and Cole give you more than Short in that department. He also benefits from staying fresh, so I'm fine with it.

I do think he'll be the starter next season with Star and Dwan will be relegated to the rotational guy.

I don't think the coaching staff is really worried about it right now. We have such a deep rotation of DT's, the one that technically gets the start is somewhat insignificant. I'd be interested to see how the defensive snap counts breakdown for our DT's, because they seem to be on a fairly even rotation outside of Star who gets the bulk.

Don't confuse starting with "stupid" no where did i say he should play every snap.

No, but you do realize that "starting" only means they put you out there for the first play of the game your unit is on the field, right? If he's getting a set percentage of snaps then it's definitely for a reason, most likely due to his current developmental progress as a player. NFL rookies take at least a whole year to adjust to the demands of pro level football. Just because he's doing good with so many snaps doesn't mean that he'd produce as efficiently playing more snaps.

for positions that have pretty heavy rotation...being designated as a "starter" doesn't mean a whole lot except that you are there for the first snap.

cole is just better on the first couple downs when teams decide to run (which is when they are more likely to do that).

it's really not that big of a deal.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
