Brandon Lafell - Ooh Wee Mayne

great post

LaFell is so inconsistent in pass catching.

The bad: A key third down drop verse the Saints, a key drop against Zona earlier in the year.

The good: huge catches such as the down the field catch verse the Jets, the catch against the Bucs in the back of the endzone, a pair of TD's verse the Rams, and the long TD verse the Vikings.

His down the field blocking though is usually great, and he has shown explosiveness on some end around runs.

Is he the 100% second coming of Moose, probably not. He's probably 85% what Moose was. Though he has the potential and talent to be even better.

I think Lafell's problem has been thinking he knows it all. Steve Smith has said so

Agree.  I don't know first-hand but he comes across that way during interviews.  Good blocker, ok route runner but doesn't create much separation.  I like him, especially when his game is on ... but if it is late in the game and a critical catch is needed, I don't gameplan to get him the ball.

At this point, lets not draw comparisons to Moose.  Moose was better in all facets ...  except the running game.

Alshon Jeffrey - Chi (Who is outproducing Brandon Marshall)

Eric Decker - Den

Michael Floyd - Ari (Unless you think Larry Fitzgerald is the #2 in Ari)

Hakeem Nicks - NYG

Doug Baldwin - Sea (or Golden Tate, you tell me which is #2)

I could go on, but you get my point. Some of these #2 guys actually are fighting to be considered #1. And LaFell is in a different class than any of them. There are lots of good #2 guys in the league, and many more will be coming out in the draft. I'm not saying LaFell shouldn't be #2 right now, I'm saying he's decent but if we have the opportunity to upgrade the #2 wide receiver position through FA or the draft, we should take it rather than holding out hope the LaFell will develop into a #2 of the caliber of the guys mentioned above.

Do you really think he can do that? Really?

Eric Decker is a free agent next year, I'd like to see him in a Panthers uni.

Really? He's a #2 player who's going to get paid like a #1. Won't be nearly the same guy without Demaryius, Welker and Julius Thomas to pull coverage away from him. He's a good #2, no better.

Yet people here want to throw $60 million at Hakeem Nicks, who doesn't even have a touchdown yet this season.

We need another play maker, if I had to choose from the FA pool, it'd be Decker.

We would be crazy to pay anything close to that for either guy. Best plan of attack is get a young play maker in the Draft imo. Quality OT won't be there in the late 20's early 30's, and Depth at the WR position will cause a really talented guy to slide....

It's more of a dream scenario than anything.

I'd love to draft a stud receiver, but I'm not going to bet money on one falling to us.

I'm not saying we're going to get a Megatron or AJ Green where we're picking, but we should be able to find a number one WR with the depth in the draft. There's a ton of guys with that potential in this class.

I don't think any guy is going to step in as a #1 right away, unless we are picking top 5, which we aren't.

Best hope is to get a solid #2 with good upside.

Right we will still get a great WR. Demarius Thomas was a late first rounder, Jordy Nelson 2nd, Torrey Smith late first, Boldin,  Alshon 2nd. Hopkins, Allen, Kendall Wright, Josh Gordon all are guys not taken early but difference makers.  Gettleman will find Cam a WR

You don't think a guy like Kelvin Benjamin or Marqise Lee could step in and be a play maker within the first few games of the season?

You could do much better, too. You're #2, like you're #1, needs to do one thing above everything else, and that's catch the ball when it's thrown in your direction. I don't care if you're #1 is your home run threat and your burner, even if you're not the dynamic receiver on the squad you still have to be counted on to make a play. And no one with a drop rate like LaFell can be a quality #2 or even a mediocre #1. Until he proves he's got the ability to go up and fight for a ball, and (this one drives me nuts) catch the easy ones, I'd hesitate to look at him as a viable #2.

As of right now, he's good, but easily replaceable, and I certainly wouldn't pass up a quality WR in the hopes that LaFell would develop into that role.

what's his drop rate? How does it compare to others?

I don't feel he drops that many passes.

So go grab those stats to back up your claim.

Hard to say. Who predicted Keenan Allen would be doing what he's doing right now? I just want a legit threat, #1, #2, doesn't matter.
