Panthers v. Saints matchup #2

Can't argue at all with that. The Jenkins tackle on that play was huge, same as the Lewis tackles on the WR screens.

Carolina needs to have better success against Gallette pass blocking this game too.

The early leads were huge, it coerced Panthers out of their gameplan of slow ball control and made them one dimensional trying to keep up, just like Seahawks and Rams put Saints in early hole. For some reason, Saints defense has been mediocre in first qtr but amazing in second half, that will get them beat this week if they don't figure it out! Last game they held Panthers to FG's or else a 14-0 hole makes the game totally different.

Ahhh the old "change 6 or 7 plays and we would have won" argument.

Ok, explain to me how we can correctly discuss any details from Rams game since we were trying to discuss some actual football play? So can't mention stats, can't mention specific plays, etc. so what is the correct way to have this football conversation?

lol Catfish Alice

Saints on the road this year: 3-4

2 point win over TB (lol)

8 point win over Bears

Loss to Patriots

Loss to Jets (lolol)

4 point win over Falcons (lol)

27 point loss to Seahawks (lolol)

Blowout loss to Rams (lololol)

Lost 4 of last 5 on the road, are clearly getting worse on the road as the season goes along.

Yes. 14-0 would've been significant difference. We had early success running the ball early but a few 3rd down sacks or TFL killed us.

Carolina still has #4 redzone offense but has seemed to settle for FGs more often last few weeks.

Certainly anytime Carolina gets in the redzone, they need to put up 7.  I think it's doubtful to hold NO to less than 21, even on the road so TDs are at a premium.

It's simple, really.

OL has to not suck. Open up holes so we can at least get 4 yards per rush. Don't have to be gaping holes, just big enough to squeeze through for a few yards. Pass blocking has to give Cam time and good throwing lanes, and I think they will.

Cam has to be smarter this game than he was yesterday. He had a good day, by all accounts. I'm not talking about his passing. I'm talking about picking his spots to run and his timing on that. I was at the game, and we were SCREAMING a few times that he needs to take off faster, or see the huge holes when they are there. Unless you see a receiver WIDE open, when there is a large hole that you can get at least 5-10 yards with...take it. 3 to 4 seconds, you dont see anybody open, run if it's there. He is usually good at this and I will write yesterday off as an anomaly as long as he gets back to typical Cam in that department.

Defense needs consistent pressure. We didn't blitz enough last game against the Saints, and when we did, it was pretty "tight" blitzing, where we just got bottle-necked and couldn't get through. Spread that OL out, make them pick their men, and take advantage of a gap with a blitzing LB or DB.

Secondary has to be better. No real tips here other than not sucking like they did last time. Part of the problem last time was the lack of pressure throughout the game, but we can still do better. They played a bit better against the Jets, but there were still wide open receivers (a couple of times, due to Luke not having his head on a swivel and losing a man short underneath) and it was the Jets and Geno Smith they were playing. We SHOULD have looked pretty good against them, and we did for the most part (that INT was awesome).

Special teams from the Jets game needs to show up at home for us next week as well. Apart from Barner's muffed KO return, they were damn near perfect. Must continue that, and I think they absolutely will.

Ron can't get conservative. Treat this like a playoff game, because it is, for all practical purposes. Win next week and we're in the playoffs. Much better situation than a game on the road against an Atlanta team looking to play spoiler to a Panthers team playing for their playoff lives.

Put up points early and often. No wasted drives. Every drive needs points. Get NO one-dimensional, and we have a shot. Like all defenses, we're better when we don't have to worry about the other team's run game and we can focus on the pass. Sure, it's Brees, but Brees without playaction is preferable to Brees with playaction.

Do all of this, and we win.

Good read:

Carolina's secondary needs to step up in a BIG WAY or else it could be another rout.  Can't play soft zone coverage against a QB like Drew Brees.  That poo might work against the Geno Smiths, Colin Kaepernicks and Eli Mannings of the league, but not a QB that can carve up a secondary like a surgeon.

Lol Alice, The Saints were down 27-3 going into the 4th Quarter to the RAMS. There is no way you can spin that in a positive light.

How is anyone reading my posts and saying I'm trying to put a positive spin, make excuses, do damage control, etc. I said it in other thread. If same team shows up this week in Charlotte, they will get in early hole and get beaten bad, and then will probably be a quick out in playoffs, it's obvious they are not same team on road. They did have a good game earlier this year in Chicago where a garbage time Tad made the score a little closer, but they owned bears in that game. If that teams shows up, I like our chances, but the probability of that happening is looking low.

Catfish Alice, you were down by 3 scores or more most of the game and ended up losing by 11 points to the Rams. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure we dominated the Rams earlier this year. Terrible loss yesterday.

It was really embarrassing for them. Theyre trying to put together some momentum before the playoffs and build on their confidence. It was an extremely bad time for them to lose. . and lose to the lowly Rams. 3-4 on the road does not leave a player with a good feeling when he travels to hostile territory in Jan and Feb.

and as you said, they were beaten the whooooole game, watching and just knowing that its all about to come crashing down. A loss to the Panthers would be. . . devastating. Someone is very nervous right now.

Your first post reeked of excuse making.  To be fair, since then I have seen reasonable posts from you.

I was trying to address what you posted about Stacy running since that really wasn't the difference, 17 points off turnovers. Another 3 off a surprise onside kick whixh is like another turnover equals 20 points of the 27. I think turnovers and the pressure that forced it was the main story, not Stacy running yard. Not to say Stacy was irrelevant, but without those turnovers it was a non factor.
