need more prayers.... fml UPDATED; UPDATE 12/25

So let's just say the prayers are working.

I mentioned in the original OP that there was so much internal bleeding that they couldn't find where it was coming from.  They would take her for a scan every morning, and it was the same answer every time "We can't see where it is coming from and there is blood everywhere"  Then on Sunday in the middle of the afternoon the radiologist came into the waiting room and said he thought after taking a second look he may know where it was originating from.  He said they thought she had a busted artery somewhere on the back side of near her stomach (or something like that), and the artery was literally pumping blood into her body.  He said they could attempt to go in there through her groin and see if they could actually locate the hole and then close the breach.

He said however, "Unfortunately, it was not likely to actually locate the hole when they went in there, and even if they did it was also unlikely it would be in an area that they could do anything about it."  He said basically "It will be like finding a needle in a haystack and then putting a thread through it"  But he told us "This is really the only chance she has"

He told us "We will know in about 20 minutes from the time we start the procedure if this has any chance of succeeding.  I remember the procedure started right about at kick off of the Panther-Jets game, and of course I made them turn the game on in the waiting room (distractions are good instead of just sitting there waiting).  I felt better once the game made it through the first quarter and had not heard from the doctor.  Then it was halftime (and I felt even more encouraged).  Finally he came out and said it was a success!!!!  He felt to a 98% certainty that they had stopped the bleeding.

Of course, all the ink that was needed for all the scans and the procedure itself destroyed her kidneys though.

She was taken back to her room, and her vitals were stable (with the help of a lot of medicines and machines).  Things looked a little better and if the bleeding had stopped her overall prognosis was still not very good but we were looking at a more protracted situation.  So on Monday, I tried to go home to Raleigh for a night and get my wife back home so she could get back to work, to check on my cats, and get my dogs back home.  I don't get halfway there before my sister calls and says "Everything is going downhill fast, her blood pressure is dropping, they think she is still bleeding you need to come back"  I asked if they were taking her in for an emergency scan to confirm the bleeding or not and they said they were, so I said "I am still going to Raleigh to drop off the dogs, my wife, and get some more clothes, and will turn right around and come back, let me know what the scans show as soon as you know".

To understand some of my actions, my sisters are both extremely negative and overdramatic about everything.  If my mom's blood pressure drops 5 points they freak out and call everyone in telling her "this is it she is dying everyone come to the hospital!"

So once in Raleigh I get a call from my sisters, "They did the scan. She is still bleeding, it is everywhere, you need to get back"  Well, if she is bleeding this is it, there is nothing else they can do.  So I tell my wife all this, so now I want her to come back with me as this is going to be the end.  So we hop in the car and head back to Charlotte, defeated and saddened.

Now this next part I will never know the answer to because I wasn't there.  But I have a suspicion on where the error was.  Once I am getting into Charlotte I talk to my sisters again.  They say 'Well.... actually the bleeding was stopped... derp"

My guess is the radiology Drs told them "We don't see any bleeding so there is nothing for us to do" and my sisters heard 'We don't see where she is bleeding, there is nothing more we can do"

Whatever, but there is still the issue that her blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels and she had an enormous amount of fluid in her body that was not getting processed by her body because she had no kidney functions.  So they needed to get her on dialysis to remove or redirect the fluids her body or else it could collapse her lungs.  But the regular dialysis procedure that only takes 8-10 hours was fueled by the patient's blood pressure and her body could not handle that, but there was another dialysis procedure that would take @3 days through a machine.  But her blood and her condition, coupled with the fact she couldn't be on blood thinners, was making it difficult for the machine to work.  Her blood kept blowing up the filters and jamming the machine.

There were no other options if this machine would not work and for nearly 48 hours it would not work.  they tried several different things but her blood was still busting the filters.  They had one more idea on how to get the machine to work, and if that didn't work, it was to plan B, which was regular dialysis, which we were all pretty certain her body couldn't handle.  In other words, this machine had to work.

The nurse (who has been awesome) said "We are going to try this one more time, and if it doesn't work, we are going to the other option,.... and it worked!!  The machine was not getting jammed, and fluids were coming off of her body!!  And her vitals are holding steady!  They said they would keep her sedated and just run this machine for 3 days.

That is where we are at now.  I actually have gotten back home to Raleigh last night for a night or two to get some actual sleep, because for the next couple of days all they are doing is running this machine and adjusting her meds.

The prayers and well wishes are working!  These are still just small steps in a marathon, but each success improves her overall prognosis.  If she were to recover we are looking at around at least a month in the hospital, likely a couple of months.  So each success, just takes us to the next issue.  But for now she is still hanging in there.

Thank you guys and gals again, I really think the positive energy helps.  I will keep you updated!!
