FYI: Would be "shocking" if Giants re-sign Nicks...

Something to keep an eye on...

@DanGrazianoESPN: Oh, there are going to be so many. Justin Tuck's situation is a big one. It's possible he's earned a new deal with his big second half, but it's also possible they move on from a franchise pillar, which would be a huge story. Hakeem Nicks is a bit less so, since at this point I think it'd be shocking if he were back, and even if he is it'd be on a team-friendly deal. So I'm going to say that Manning extension to which I referred above. Fans may not love it when the Giants announce a huge-money, long-term commitment to Manning off his worst season, but a Manning extension is the surest way to create the 2014 cap room they need. And given what's out there, short-term and long-term, for potential replacements, it's the only move for them to make.

Giants have to give a new contract to Eli. They also have to sign Tuck. Nicks is coming off a down year. There's a real good chance he could come here with a not so big contract. Hope it works out.

Not in love with Nicks. Like I have aid in other threads: His knees are highly suspect. He just no longer gets the separation that he once did, and basically uses his big frame to out-muscle smaller CBs for the ball, the few times that he can get half-way open. His production hasn't equaled to his hype for the last few years, and I don't see risking a ton of money to find out if he can get back to his old self...which really never materialized. He's a big WR who seems to have some upside, but may just complete his busting ways.

$5 mil a year. I would be loath to give him that.

while Nicks' production is down this year in TDs he would still be our #1 receiver in yards and in ypc and is headed for one of his best seasons in yards and ypc.  his lack of TDs is, imo, an anomaly and not indicative of the quality of receiver he is.

he's still a very good receiver.  he hasn't looked that great this year, but no Giant has (other than Victor Cruz imo).  I think he still creates separation against most defenders and can really go after the ball.

but his durability is a huge concern.  can he finish a season?  he's never had a 16 game season in his career.

all depends what he wants to be paid.

    • i think i go in the opposite direction of most. my ideal retirement is living in some old downtown area in a flat above some shop or something.  life out in the country was just something i got real tired of. My kids actually miss some of living out there, which i understand. that was where they grew up for the most part. 40 acres with a 2.5 acre pond. it was beautiful, but also way too much (and too expensive) for me to keep up with.
    • FLASHBACK: I remember back when ESPN was just starting--he was their anchor.  They used to show stuff like Rodeo and field hockey--I remember laughing when he went to a commercial mocking a cycling competition in Utah (or something similar--I made that up) and I laughed.  I told my dad, "We may have us a new anchor when we get back from commercial."  When they came back from commercial, Berman was looking very serious and he said, "Any comments by me do not reflect the views of ESPN....The men and women who cycle are dedicated athletes and we are honored to shine light on their sport." (Paraphrasing).  Dad laughed hysterically. My first memory of him--and that was like 1980.
    • Might not have a team without them. Although that probably applies to the Panthers, too.
