Salary Cap could exceed 127.5 Mill

Yes, owners were told on Wednesday to expect the 2014 salary cap to climb from $123 million to $126.3 million.

The real expectation is that the expected number will be even higher.

Per a league source, the final number could be more than $127.5 million per team. That would be a 3.65-percent increase over last year.

Last year, the league initially expected the salary cap to inch up from $120.6 million to $121 million. We were told (by the same source) that it would actually be more than $122 million.

The final numbers are announced not long before the start of the new league year in March, at which time every team must be in compliance with the spending maximum.

Well that should be enough to cover for Stewart and Williams, now what to do about the rest of the team.

Yep, just gives us a little more wiggle room with our bad contracts.  Unfortunately, everyone who was in a better cap situation than us is still in a better cap situation than us because they get the extra money too.

Imo, the cap should at least rise 10 million with these absurd QB contracts.

Tough to name a franchise QB that isn't doing pretty good in the win column too.

Agents just whip GMs in contract negotiations.  The beating got so intense and lopsided for rookie contracts that the NFL finally instituted a rookie wage scale.  Will QB contracts eventually force the NFL to institute a max contract like the NBA has?

I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic so this comment isn't directed at you. But for those that don't know, the cap is based on a % of revenue coming into the league. So the design is such that players get a bigger payday as the league has more money coming in. What teams spend on players has no impact on the where the league sets the salary cap.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
