Saints Punter Morstead Fined for Facemask Tackle on Ted Ginn

If he didn't do that it was a TD.  Sometimes you need to eat a big penalty and/or take a big fine for the better of the team.  I'm not happy about it happening, but it was a smart play.

I hope Senn smartly blocks a Punt next week and falls hard into him afterwards.

I re-watched the game last night and saw several things go uncalled that we disturbing. One was a late hit out of bounds on Olsen on a clearly uncatchable ball. Vaccarro's clotheline of Smith, hands to the face on another play at the LOS...

Well you know soft teams have to take shots and play dirty. So im fully expecting us to return the favor

The officiating was blatantly in favor of the Saints.  It wasn't directly "bad calls" but they didn't set a consistent tone with their calls.  If our DBs did any form of illicit contact it was immediately flagged, whereas our receivers were getting mugged consistently and nothing was ever flagged our way.

They have a way.  The penalty for a "Palpably Unfair Act" can be the awarding of a touchdown.

I'm not sure a face mask tackle, despite how nasty this was, would reach that level. I think this is meant for something like someone on the sideline coming on the field and tripping up a player. Yeah, that was a cheap shot and I think it's fair to argue that he should have been ejected but I don't think the refs are gonna give anyone six points for something like that.

I wasn't really suggesting that this rose to that level but more addressing the point that the refs do have a remedy for circumstances where someone commits a foul so egregious and unsportsmanlike like that it effects the outcome of the game.

So I strolled over to Saintsreport and 95% of them don't agree with the fine. They are also saying they are glad he did it and it was worth saving the TD. So breaking a guys neck is okay as long as you win the football game?

Just goes to show what a classess organization they are.

The facemask fine was well deserved.

wasn't enough, imo.

lesson here...if you don't mind paying $7k and getting a 15 yard penalty, you can grab a guy's facemask to prevent a touchdown.

of course you would have to be on the saints level of cheap shots and dirty play to do something like that.
