Carolina's record in 4 o'clock EST games

Since this weekend's matchup with the New York Jets starts at 4:05 Eastern Standard Time (EST), I took some time to compile a little known statistic about the Panthers.  Since 2002, the Panthers are 15-13 in games with kickoff times starting at or around 4pm EST.  This is regardless of where the game was played in the country.  For example, if they played in San Diego and kickoff time was at 1pm Pacific Standard Time, it was considered a 4pm EST start time.  How that 15-13 stat breaks down:

  • 2-4 in 4pm games under Ron Rivera since 2011 (0-1 at home - vs Seattle in 2012)
  • 11-9 in 4pm games played AWAY since 2002
  • 4-4 in 4pm games played at HOME since 2002

The last time the Panthers played the Jets at home, it was a 4pm EST start time during Week 10 of the 2005 season.  The Panthers won 30-3.

What does this mean to the game this weekend?  As the numbers show, not much.  Charlotte is located in EST so the Panthers rarely play home games with 4pm start times (the trend is less than once a season).  I thought it was interesting they have a losing record under Ron Rivera in such games.  Hopefully that trend changes this weekend.  Your interesting little stat for the day.

GO PANTHERS!
