Once again lets discuss Greg Hardy for a sec

The problem is some dumb franchise with way too much cap space will pay him whatever he wants. I love what he brings to our defense but he is not a top 5 guy. He's a good starter. Frank Alexander is getting benched for undrafted JAGs, I thought he was a decent player but our Coaches disagree. The problem with letting Hardy walk is we don't have enough picks to replace him in the first three rounds. We would need to hit on another late round guy.

Hardy is a huge part on this defense. Our defense would look very different next year without him next year. IMO, he's worth 8 mil a year (5yr/40). But I can't see Gman offering anything more than a 7mil contract, possibly 6mil for a 2year contract. That'd be my dream scenario. Anything more than 8 mil, I'd let him walk. Use that money toward an OT in FA and fans will think that they hate this idea but bring Peppers back if he's willing to come back. You can always find DE through the draft and develop one for the future too.

I definitely believe Hardy brings an attitude to this defense, and that being one of the reasons why we have been tough nosed this year.  Yet I believe we could bring in a guy like Jared Allen, and he would bring in a great attitude to this defense as well.

Definitely. Would love to add a guy like Allen. Def cheaper than Hardy. Allen plays very to Hardy as well but a much better pass rusher.

It's not just about sacks, the past three seasons he's been one of the best pass rushers based on advanced stats. He gets a bunch of hurries and QB hits to go along with his sack numbers plus he's improved a ton against the run and is pretty good in run defense as well. PFF had him in the top 5 in their pass rushing rankings last year, plus a few sites have him rated in the top 5 among 4-3 DE's.  All that equals a big, big payday. One that he will most definitely get.

if he only has 2 sacks the rest of the year (3 games), he will finish with 9 sacks abd i think his price will have actually lowered since the contract he rejected earlier this year.

are there any sources on this besides some unemployed former AM radio guy?

Yup! He's not a top 5 DE and that dumb franchise that will overpay him is Oakland.

Hardy's going to get more than $8 million per year, whether it's from us or someone else. He's young and productive at the most important defensive position.

We may not be able to re-sign him, but it's also clear Frank Alexander is probably not a guy we can count on as his replacement. There's a reason he's often inactive

Never know. I just believe that the value of a DE isn't that valuable anymore in today's NFL. The need of an OLB who can rush the QB is higher. Look at Ciff Avril who is as young and productive as Hardy. The man signed a two year contract for 15mil. Sure it was a chance to play for a winning team but he wasn't drawing much interests elsewhere too. Teams rather go the draft route to develop one than overpaying these guys.

Unless CJ restructures and Hardy doesn't look for a huge payday, I would agree with those that want to sign him for a reasonable offer/terms.  That being said, it's a business and I can also see Hardy getting a lot of love by a team with a boatload of cash to throw around.  He's just entering his prime, mean, fast, sack machine that commands attention.  We don't have his replacement on this roster, but I'd much rather throw the money he is probably looking for towards other areas (Maclin/Nicks, Albert, Verner/Shields).  I just can't see repeating the Double Trouble fiasco at DE, when we could also add someone like Ayers or Allen at DE if we aren't happy with our internal DE on rotation.
