Animal Cruelty

Considering how well the last few times I asked for advice on the huddle went, I figured hey.. Why not try it again?

Recently my neighbors got a cat that started coming over into my yard and would fight with my cat. They had the nerve to ask if we could make our cat an indoor cat so their cat could roam the neighborhood. Trying to be nice to neighbors we explained our cat has been an indoor and outdoor cat for 8 years and we can't make him become an indoor cat full time.

So, three days after this happened my cat got a terrible sore on his side. I couldn't really tell what it was but, after a while it healed up. Not even a week later he got another one, this one was not as severe as the first one. It's been about two weeks and today I see him licking his back/thigh area... I could see he had another sore. Guess what I find embedded in his skin? A god damn pellet. I'm so furious right now. These scumbags have been shooting my fuging cat for the past few weeks trying to kill them. Trying to kill someone's animal is so so SO crossing the line.

My question is. How do I go about handling this? My whole family is going over to their house tomorrow to talk to them about it. Should we just call the police instead? I have no idea how I should legally handle this to make sure it won't happen again. I can't have it happen again. I'm not going to let my cat get shot to death because their cat can't stay in his yard like mine does.

Are you sure they were the ones shooting your cat? Do you have evidence of it? The only reason I ask is that you'll want proof it was them, not just that they wanted your cat to stay inside.

No I'm not 100% sure but this is the only family on the block that doesn't know my cat.. I guess you could say we've had problems with this family before.

Nobody else owns an outdoor pet and I know for a fact they won a pellet gun.

If there are multiple witnesses to the entire "Can you turn your cat into an indoor cat..." conversation, there is at least the circumstantial involvement.

I would think that even the biggest dickhead cops would be somewhat empathetic toward a defenseless animal.

Personally? Let me catch someone or know someone is maliciously and purposefully hurting, harming or otherwise mistreating an animal and I would, without hesitation, sacrifice my personal freedom to ensure that it was stopped, that it would not happen again and that the proper retribution is taken. I would not hesitate to inflict pain upon the person. The stupid shall be punished.

My whole family was witnesses to them asking if we can turn our cat into an indoor cat. So that's 5 of us.. I live in such a nice neighborhood. It's sad to see it go to poo.

I can't believe in the modern world we live in someone would shoot a persons pet over something this simple..

Catch their cat and take it to the SPCA as a stray. Then burn their house down.

Yeah, probably don't want to do that...

Doctor in the town I recently moved from. I know the victim personally and was on the board of the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA when this went down. Dude actually drove the dogs to Roanoke (50 miles away) and turned them over to an animal shelter, said he found them alongside the road. The dogs were chipped and, contrary to whet was stated by the doctor, his intent was to have both dogs euthanized because he didn't get along with his neighbor.

If he wasn't a fairly well known doctor, he'd still be in jail.

    • These last couple playoff/championship games for the edge class will mean millions. Someone will have a big game and become the favorite top edge. Everything is on the line for the edge group now.
    • Because he's not the best prospect in the draft, he's the best college player in the draft, and those are two entirely different things. Yes, if he focused on one side, his stats may have been better, but stats aren't what makes a player's prospects, it's their abilities and how they translate to the next level. I'm also not knocking him as a prospect, not like I'm saying he's a mid round pick, he's just probably the 2nd best CB and 3rd best WR, in what way is that throwing shade on him?  It's literally saying he's a Top 10 pick, just not THE top prospect at his position(s).  I really don't get why you think someone saying a player is the 2nd best player at one position and 2nd or 3rd best at another position is hating on them, it's crazy talk. Even in your defense of him here, you say a just asinine sentence, "he's the #1 rated prospect because he's actually elite at both positions" His ability at 2 positions has 0% bearing on his NFL prospects, as no team is going to use him full time both ways, he's either going to be a full time WR, or a mostly full time CB who gets 5 or so snaps a game on offense.   So him playing both positions shouldn't factor into any team's draft evaluation of him, if a team is taking him over Johnson because of the few snaps he'd play on offense, they're choosing a player for the wrong reason.  The only way I'm taking him over T-Mac is if it's a team that already has a true outside #1 and what they need is speed in the slot to compliment the outside guy (and btw, most teams don't have that, if anything, most would have the slot guy and need the true outside #1).
    • Remember when @CamWhoaaCam didn't bandwagon that team that was having a surprisingly good season?
