We play zone because our corners suck and that's the only choice we have

do our corners suck? yes.

is that the reason we play zone? nope. we play zone because that's the jim johnson D which is the model that both rivera and mcD learned early on and have used throughout their tenure as defensive coaches.

we play zone.

he's not good in zone.

he ould be as misused and ultimately as ineffective as revis in tampa or worse because he's got so much mileage.

that said...what could it hurt?

This, but I wouldn't object to kicking the tires for the right price... in our current situation we need to keep an open mind.

Sure, you're correct. But that's just another excuse. We play zone bc we have scrubs in the secondary. Lets say if we have a Sherman or Primed Revis, would we play zone? Hell no we let them play man coverage all day.

If we have the personel better fitted for man to man then we will adjust for that. The reason we haven't signed him isn't because WE PLAY DA ZONE, it's same reason we never sign anyone at all.

after watching captain munnerlyn play live and in person I would jump at literally anyone

They were targeting him heavy

And we played man a lot in Miami game and Capt was getting his ass burned. So its not like its impossible to run man here cause of a scheme, poo we played man the 1st drive. I swear I think this team didn't watch any film of Seattle game

I wouldn't mind us bringing him in here. He cannot be worse than we we have and he is veteran that Rivera likes in the secondary.

If this was going to happen, it would have soon after he was let go.  Do not see any help for our secondary coming until the off season.  The Panthers will live in die this year with what they have.

changing to man would be too much of a big deal at this point. it would require too many people adjusting roles. adding nnamdi would bring in more talent, but it's doubtful it would help much and may, in fact, do more harm than good if we adjust to man, even for just one guy.

even if we did bring him in, what good would he do? how many WRs could he cover? more than one? because we sure got beat by more than one. who, last night, would any of you have put him on and what makes anyone think that the outcome would have been much different. if you have a QB that is an expert at finding the open man, he'll just find another option.

what we have isn't perfect, but it's helped us get what was before last night the best D in the league.

rather than any kind of schematic or philosophical overhaul (that might be needed in the offseason and would be required to adjust to man), why not try to find out what happened in the front 7 that broke down and exposed the secondary?

the DL was ineffective at getting to the QB and the LBs were just flat abused (other than maybe TD). the best and more effiecient option, esp. at this point in time, is to find out what went wrong up front and fix it up front.

next year we can talk about adding in man guys and changing what is needed to incorporate that, if that is the best option (which i'm not convinced would be). right now, though, what we have done has worked well enough with all but a couple teams and had been downright dominant with most. i think it worked really well against seattle and that was before we were gelling (of course that was before they were healthy, but i doubt there would be much change in the outcome).

what we have been doing would work with most teams in the playoffs....as long as the front seven is doing their job, which they weren't. the key to getting better on defense and going deep into the playoffs isn't in bringing in some other guy (even though it might help a little bit). the key is to fix the problem up front with the DL and the LBs and also the DBs clean their poo up some.

and no, i'm not talking long term. i'm talking about this season, which is all that matters right now. we take care of next season after this one is over.
