Kubiak fired as Texans HC - Should we be worried?

I think it is still too early. This is the first year for mike as our oc and our offense hasnt been nearly as impressive as our defense, and this is the first year we have had an elite defense. Now if our d stays elite throughout the playoffs and on through next season then I could maybe see mcd become a candidate

Kubiak fired + we have a good coordinator =/ texans will hire mcdermott. No reason to be worried. Besides, even if there was a chance, why worry now? We're in the middle of the playoff hunt. I'll worry about offseason matters in the offseason. After we've won the Lombardi ;)

Let's think about this................our coaching staff is part of a team with the longest current win streak and a good chance to get into the playoffs and make a very deep run.................that is enough worthy of staying put through the balance of the post season to put a feather in their caps....

I see everything staying intact through the final game of the post season which of course we are hoping that is the victor in the last game in Feb.

not totally and McDerm is making the calls during the game. if we lost him, it would be a blow, not something to just brush off.

Bottom line is that Rivera knows defense, watch his sound FX and tell me that isn't his defense. Yeah, Mcdermot makes the calls, but that is Rivera's defense. He is a defensive coach.

Nobody is going to get hired away from anywhere before they play their final game regardless of anything. The question was in regard to next season.

Shula's not a legitimate candidate right now.

McDermott was, after his first season in Philly, and through a fair portion of his second season.  He could be again.

As to whether it's "his" defense or Rivera's, they both come from a similar background.  I'll say this, McDermott has calmed down from his Philly days with the 7 DB looks and the constant blitzing.  The team structure is more Rivera's and McDermott is calling from within that, with respect to his personnel.  He doesn't have to blitz all the time, and we're 2nd in sacks.

Now, in the worry that McDermott goes, of course it'd be a big loss. Consider that Rivera wanted Steve Wilks in 2011, and couldn't get him, and Wilks waited around a year in SD to be able to come aboard.  That's your replacement, and he'd be absolutely fantastic at it.

Kubiak isn't a surprise, I wouldn't be totally surprised to see Munchak go or Shanahan go, but I can see why they'd stay (I can't see a way that Shanahan doesn't fire Jim Haslett).

Lovie might make sense in Houston, but the best part of that team remains defense.  Wade is comfortable there, I believe the smart thing to do is to find someone whose plans include a more progressive offense and allowing Phillips to stay.  Lovie will not do that.

man, that team sploded

With a talent-laden roster headlined by superstars  Andre Johnson , Arian Foster and J.J. Watt, the Texans are in a position to have a rapid turnaround under new leadership next season.

Like the 2012 Chiefs, the Texans have QB  and HC problems that if fixed can make them contenders in the very near future, especially if they get someone like Lovie Smith as HC..

Our team can absorb the loss of McDermott decently. Rivera will now be apart of three no.1 defenses under his tenure as a DC in Chicago and SD...and now in Carolina. He has gone largley unappreciated how good of a defensive mind he has.. Which is why he is a Head Coach.

This also means Kubiack might be avail as an OC which is not a perfect fit here but he is good.
