PFF: Star is the best run stopping DT in the league

Man, I hate you now. I've been daydreaming about this for way too long. I mean, we are talking about next year.

We need an anchor at LT. He can be a vet looking for that second contract, looking for a good landing spot. Or it could be from the draft. I would prefer the former for two reasons. He is already groomed and shiney, and he frees up the top of the draft.

FA LT-Amini-Kalil-?-Gross. We have a glut of guys who could fight out for that RG spot, competition like that could only help.

Then again, G-man may be able to find a LT in the draft. Which would be the cheaper way to go. But, you have to trust yourself if you are going to spend a high pick on a LT who is not a top 10 pick.

Maybe G-man is all that. I guess we will find out. Even that perks my giddy just a little bit.

Best case. Chandler picks up all the coaching and teaching over the off-season, and comes in ready to play RT. That would allow us to resign Gross at a fair price, and allow us the luxury to keep searching for that guy to anchor LT.

We could use this draft to address CB, WR, TE, and unless Barner shows up, RB, and even a QB of the future. Leave LT to FA, we have the money, and the need.

Just by taking a quick look at next years FA class there does seem to be some o line talent available.  There are some definit upgrades to be had if Gettleman can make some deals.  The top Free Agent O lineman listed that I saw are Branden Albert OT KC, Wade Smith OG HOU, Eugene Monroe OT JAX, Michael Oher OT Ravens, Jared Veldheer OT OAK.  I don't pay attention to college or mock drafts until closer to draft time so I can't project who I think will be available in the 20-32 range.  I think that Gettleman is really going to upgrade this offensive unit this offseason.  Our offense hasn't been bad, but I really think we are missing that consistent big play WR in our offense, the one Smitty used to be.  Right now, our offense has been what it needs to be with a dominant defense like we have now.  I'm pretty sure we still lead the league in T.O.P. if not we are definitely top 3.  The only thing we are truly missing outside of the big play threat at WR is a consistent running game. We are paying way to much to these Rbs for their numbers to be as average as they have been these last couple years.  I think a lot of that has to do with not having true "Hog Mollies" at the OG position.  Chandler can pass protect and is decent in the run game but nobody on this offensive line is a road grader.   It seems like we can run it when we have too but most of the time we get stuffed at the LOS.
