PFF: Star is the best run stopping DT in the league

Seriously though, has a team ever had 3 consecutive rookies of the year in any category? That's some built-to-last type poo right there. This team is trending up for the next 5-7 years, maybe longer. Enjoy this ride, Panther bros and gals.

Nope.

Mel Farr won OROY and Lem Barney won DROY in 1968, followed by Earl McCullogh winning OROY 1968 for the Lions. Of course there were only 16 teams at the time.

Urlacher won DROY in 2000 and Anthony Thomas won OROY in 2001 for the Bears.

Panthers would be the first.

Agreed. I have a feeling our Oline will be as dominant after the 2014 draft as our Dline is now. Just like the Dline, it's the biggest area of need and I have a feeling Gettleman will make it a strength. The picks won't be popular at the time (just like Short), but it'll have huge pay offs, as the running game will all of a sudden wake up and Cam will be able to just sit in the pocket and fire heat seekers all over the field.

We also have Kugbila, who we've yet to see anything from. Hopefully Gettleman saw something he really liked in him, and now that he's had a full year of being coached up we'll be able to see what he can do.  Amini will also be available again although he hasn't been anything spectacular we could sure use him at RG and kick Chandler to RT and I honestly think that's a solid line.  I think we draft a LT or RT depending on who is available from where we pick.

So they're giving more weight to run stops by a DE in a 3-4 scheme than a DT in a 4-3 scheme?

Kind of. He's a 3-4 DE and not a a 5 tech DT like Star. Plus he's played more snaps than Star and has a very close % to Star.

He really, REALLY should win DROY.  But it isn't a glamour position and without a poot on of sacks he won't get it.

But nobody, no other rookie has had as big of an impact on a team as Star has here.  If it wasn't for Luke he would probably be Panther's defensive MVP

I love what Star has been doing.

Think about all of our defensive draft picks this year though.

Star

Short

Klein

Klein has been my personal favorite. Dude has shown flashes of being a very good player in the league for years to come.

Don't forget to throw White and Lester in that conversation. They've had their mistakes, but for UDFA's they've performed above expectations.

Good gravy.... The thought of what Star's ceiling is just blows my mind.

not just star but the entire def draft class.  gman and rr may be the match made in heaven for a dynasty.

that earthquake everyone felt, but few acknowledged in 2011 and with all the haters hating laughing trashing us,  meet the tsunami of 2013.
