We've beaten teams who the poster above would consider "contenders."

"yeah i know man but espn talks about them and stuff, theyre popular man, theyre legit"

Just wrote up a 5 paragraphed response, but it failed to post. So for the sake of time, I don't appreciate your breakdown of my logic, especially considering I've watched an ESPN program maybe half a dozen times in my entire life.

The disconnect between the best of the best and the fringe playoff teams (that does include us) is larger than people think it is. Sure anything can happen, such as the Giants/Patriots or the Seahawks/Saints, but most of the time, the more experienced and well-rounded team will win.

We are not as solid all around as the Saints, Seahawks, Broncos, etc. We don't have their experience. We don't know how Rivera's newly found identity will act in the playoffs. It could change and fail under pressure, it could become overly aggressive, etc etc. Same with Cam, same with the secondary, same with most of this squad.

Etc etc, whatever other brilliant points I made that are now lost in the abyss of cyber space, something else about "would you honestly tell me...", blah too lazy to reiterate what I wrote originally.

You don't think having big prime-time games so far isn't prepping us for the playoffs? We do have several guys and coaches with playoff experience

Again, wrote a long response and it failed to post. Long story short: Sure, it helps, but playoffs are one and done. We can afford to lose primetime games when we're sitting at 8-3. Rivera and Newton are untrusted in a "win or it's over" scenario. Rivera's newfound identity could change with the loaded pressure, we never know how it'll hold up in a playoff game situation. Blah blah blah, whatever else I said that I forgot.

Brady/Belichick, Brees/Payton, Peyton/Fox, Wilson/Carroll, etc etc are cool as ice in these situations. They're battle tested and know what they're doing. Our guys are all unpredictable and we have no idea whether they will change come playoffs or whether they'll stick to what they're been doing.

I really wish my first post went through cause these two responses are absolutely terrible, but you get the relative idea.

Glennon completed 30 passes the last meeting, including 5 to VJ, 5 to Tim Wright, 6 to Brian Leonard, 3 to Tiquan Underwood and 4 to RB Mike James.

Carolina's DBs were too busy running into each other and hurting teammates instead of the WRs. While Captain may not have suffered any injuries as a result of a collision, he's definitely suffering from 3rd degree burns at the hands of Mike Wallace. And let's face it, Wallace dropped another TD and was overthrown on yet another. Every time Wallace went deep he got behind the coverage.

Yeah but Delhomme/Fox didn't have experience either. Straight to the SB their 1st year. Even Kaep/Harbaugh had no experience. I wouldn't worry about that too much. I think game-planning holds more than experience. Then some players rise to the occasions

In the original response I referred to those as anomalies, but it happens. But looking back at 2003, would you call us a Super Bowl team? Not only at the beginning of the season, but at the start of the playoffs even? Because I wouldn't.

for fugggss sakkke, captain gave up those bomb plays because Mitchell failed to give him help over the top. He felt so bad about it he made up a fake injury. It's not captain..

Nope, captain was peeking into the backfield a bit too much on the first one and got flat out beat on the second, those were on him.. Ask any of the coaches they'll tell you the same. Cap coulda had him on both he just got greedy.

Postseason conditions of the Super Bowl actually play against teams like Denver (heck the postseason I general at their Homefield does) and NO.....heck, I'd take a teams like SF over Denver in NY come February.

Plus, look at the number of wildcard teams that make the Super Bowl in recent history.....last decade the 1 seeds haven't proven to have greater odds.

Anything can happen.....and does.

Denver and Saints have little shot of winning it all IMO. They aren't as complete as you suggest IMO. Super Bowl isn't in dome and you don't even know where they will play in the postseason.

The gap between say a Seattle and a fringe team IMO is nowhere near what you suggest.....if it was a team like Tampa would go to Seattle and take it to the edge.

Both have a better chance than we do. As do the Pats. As do the Hawks. Arguably, a couple of other teams (Lions & Chiefs come to mind) may have a better shot as well.

Recent NFL history doesn't back that IMO.....look at 1 seeds vs wild cards. What matters most is who is hottest and healthiest at the end

And I think you are greatly overselling Denver. Postseason conditions greatly reduce there odds of success. Even when they have a win gift wrapped.....they showed that (last week).

NO has good odds of getting to the Super Bowl (if it goes through the dome)... then conditions of NY make them a different team/threat

Lions? Chiefs? Lions are one of the most undisciplined teams in the NFL. Chiefs? What exactly do they bring over us? Are you strictly arguing for Reid who has had his teams flop in the postseason more than any coach I can think of?

I'm not overselling anybody. Denver is likely the most complete team in the league right now, save maybe the Hawks. There is no team anywhere near perfect this year, but we have more flaws and less experience than a Denver/NO/Seattle squad.

And how can you argue against Reid if it were a Reid vs Rivera matchup? He's a great coach, some of those Eagles teams made it further than they should have. On the contrary, Rivera has never made the playoffs as a head coach. He's had great success as a defensive coordinator, but even then, Colts vs Bears Super Bowl didn't turn out too well for his #1 rated defense.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
