Brandon LaFell a #2 WR? (LaFell vs Moose)

BTW, it's worth noting that back in the early 00's, a lot of huddle posters criticized Moose in the same way they do LaFell now.  They acknowledged good blocking, but complained about his speed and drops.

I guess in 10 years we'll have another thread like this where we compare a young receiver to LaFell, and declare that he doesn't measure up based on selective memories.

I've been around on this board, in one form or another since about 2004, and Moose didn't receive near the negativity that Lafell has.

Lafell is getting better but Moose was pretty damn good from the get go.

....this next draft we need a legit WR, and we need to get it right... i dont know what it is about lafell that bothers me, he's just there, maybe its that hes not athletic... i dont like his hands and his nose for the ball.... hes a 3rd-4th receiver on another team but is he growing into somethin like a Moose? cause Moose use to drive me crazy with drops...Lafell is 27 and i feel like he should be shinning by now... so, if he wants money...see ya....ya wanna show me you've turned the corner give him a reasonable 2-3 year contract...

Unfortunately he will probably be gone

I don't think lafell is moose's level.  but he's not bad.

Ginn and Lafell together adequately make up a #2 WR, but I'd like to see a true #1 as I think it'll extend Smitty's career and really open up the passing game for our other targets like Olsen.

Agreed. Robinson or Moncrief will hopefully be there when we pick in the second and then hopefully we don't pass on them like we did Alshon who is tearing poo up right now. I still think for the right amount of money LaFell is good to have around.

Here's what they have under weaknesses on his draft page at NFL .com. Pretty spot on if you ask me. At 27 you would have liked to see some of these things corrected by now.

"LaFell possesses good top end speed but isn’t a true burner to consistently get deep at the next level. Suffers from lapses of concentration which lead to drops. Is not precise route-runner, is susceptible to press-coverage, and occasionally struggles to gain separation."

That lapses of concentration which leads to drops stands out to me. Moose had a bad case of the drops as well though. But at the end of the day if he's willing to stay for the right price he's worth it.

This thread was never intended to sell LaFell as a number 1 reciever. Just to point out that his numbers are alot closer to Muhsin's then people may think.

LaFell is pretty damn shifty with the ball in his hands...he might not be a burner, but his lateral agility and burst is comparable to Smith and Ginn IMO. And remember he burned Revis on that overthrow in the end zone today as well. I think LaFell is just another victim of our balanced passing game. He could put in much more production I think, if he was relied upon more in the passing game but we just spread the ball around too much this year for one guy to put up big numbers.

2 better throws by Cam and we are all talking about how good of a game LaFell had. Poo happens, just glad we won. Still made a nice grab at the back of the endzone, busted coverage or not.
