RGIII: "Media trying to Character Assassinate Me"

Nice personal attack.

Your recollection is a little off.  I said the criticism wasn't based on his race.  Pointed out in the process that nearly the exact same criticisms had been leveled at Jimmy Clausen the prior year.

My take on Newton was that neither he, nor any other QB in that draft, was worth the #1 pick and we'd do better to wait until the following year.  And I based that purely in on-field performance.  Character wasn't an issue I ever even discussed.

But by all means, go ahead and call me racist since that's what you guys wanna believe anyway.

Lol, this coming from the guy that calls anyone that is critical of Andy boy a teenage girl or something like that. Yeah, lol cause that's not personal right?

From one of the various "We must tear down Luck" threads...

Like I said earlier, my favorite team is having a good year, better than they've had in a long time and way better than expected. Me? I'm loving it. But others can't seem to find full enjoyment in it because OMG SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT ANDREW LUCK HOW DARE THEY DO THAT WE HAVE TO TEAR HIM DOWN OR CAM WILL SUFFER!!!

In reality, the most common reason why I wind up in debates like this is because when I see someone say something really stupid, I have trouble not responding.

That's probably something I should work on, because the results aren't always fun.  They're more often boring.

....and you are also condescending. which is the reason why you get "personal attacks" thrown your way

So you honestly believe they don't exist?

I tend to be condescending when people make statements like that after I've made statements like this...

Neither I, nor anyone else here, has ever said that racial stereotyping doesn't exist.  The difference between you and me is I don't attribute every criticism of a black quarterback that I see to racism.

If I hear someone say, "all black quarterbacks do this" that's an obvious use of a stereotype.

if I see a criticism of an individual quarterback, I ask myself, "Is that fair and correct?"  based on what I know of that individual.  I don't care what color they are.

I can't keep up with all the back and forth. My comments earlier were in general, and more in response to the draft profiles. In regards to Griffin, much of his troubles so far he brought on himself. Of course then there is also ignorance like the "corn ball brother" fiasco.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid.  Forget who said it (Something Parker?)

Griffin's draft profile was pretty good.  My biggest concern with him was his durability (which has turned out to be valid).

The behavior he's throwing out there now?  Didn't see that coming at all.  Even in his first year he behaved like a team guy who took responsibility for his own actions (and even those of others).  This latest stuff?  Just doesn't seem like the same kid.

I guess the question becomes whether stress turned him into this or this is who he really was all along?

Realistically, we'll never know the answer to that.

Wait, they criticized Pickles for being disingenuous and having a fake smile (among many other retarded things)?  I must've missed that.

I do remember Kiper saying he'd quit his job if Jimmy didn't turn into an elite quarterback or some poo though.  Guess what QB Mel Kiper wasn't high on in the 2011 draft?  Cam Newton.

Sounds like someone should save him the trouble of quitting and go ahead and fire him.

Well, you gave an example of an obvious racial attack/stereotype, what about one that isn't obvious?

As presented, sure.

The whole argument comes down to perception honestly.  You've got some who automatically put any criticism of a black QB in the 'racist' category.  Me?  I just prefer to look at the individual QB.  I'm not looking for racism under every rock.

Do I miss cases of actual racism?  Probably, but I'm willing to bet the people on the more frequent event is those on the other side of the argument seeing it where it doesn't exist.

If the statement isn't obvious and you've gotta read the bias into it, there's a pretty good chance the bias isn't in them.  It's in you.

Fake smile?  No, but these are direct quotes from his PFW profile...

Has a sense of entitlement... Arrogant - can come off as having all the answers and struggle to win a locker room. Still immature. Comes across as overly staged, scripted and disingenuous in interviews and does not have the type of presence desired in the face of a franchise. Is not a fan of the weight room...

Gruden had some similarly negative stuff to say about him on draft day.  Ironically enough, there were those on this board who bashed Gruden for those criticisms after we picked him.

As to Kiper, if they fired him for being wrong about a high pick, he'd have been gone years ago.
