Smith was just on Mike and Mike in the morning.

Quick run down.....

● Says hes glad after 13 years to finally to be invited on the show.

● As Cam gets better the team gets better.

● Gets acupuncture to help stay healthy.

● Proud of the fact he ruined Fred Smoots career.

● Says that offensive players are more intelligent than defensive players.

Line about Smoot was classic Smitty.

I was just about to post same thread so I'll just add what I was writing...

 

Get in my car on the way to work, turn to the sports station and what do you know, they are welcoming Steve Smith to the show.  Not a bad way to start the day.

 

Great interview as usual.  Smith is the best interview in the NFL and I don't think it's even close.

 

some notes:

 

 

 

 

-On being an older player in the league: he said he checks his ego at the door and realizes other guys like Ginn are stepping up and he doesn't have to do everything.  Takes care of his body more now, for example he got up this morning and went for a run and then did acupuncture.

 

-on Cam Newton: he went through a sophmore slump last year much like the other young QBs are going through now, but he is now adjusting to defenses and buying into the system.

 

-they ask him if his trash talk had ever directly affected a defensive players game.  Smith says he takes pride in the fact that he effectively  "ended Fred Smoot's career".  He says Smoot was a good player coming out of Mississppi, but he came into Bank of America Stadium one day and he was never the same after that.  Greeny then later reads off the stats from that 2005 game, 201 yards, 1 touchdown for Smith.  Smitty says, "I remember it like it was yesterday."  lulz

 

 

-on the new rules protecting offensive players:  he said defensive players are not as smart as offensive players so they have a tough time adjusting "but I may be biased".  After his response Golic says, "You realize you just insulted me right?! And you wonder why you haven't been on in 13 years!"  And Smith responds, "I knew I was going to insult you before it left my mouth."   Greeny then says, ''He's going to make you retire like he did Smoot."  Smitty says, "Make you retire twice."  Hilarious interaction.

The game was October 30th, 2005!  I also remember it like it was yesterday.  It was my one year wedding anniversary, and I went to the game anyway!  Smoot talked smack all week.  Smitty lit him up like a christmas tree!  It was also the game where Chris Gamble effectively ended Daunte Culpeppers career.

I remember watching that vikings game. I also remember seeing the highlights on youtube before. Does anyone know if those clips are out there? I did a quick search but couldnt find them.

 

yeah i made sure to grab that video before it got removed.  it was titled "steve smith owns fred smoot" and has been deleted/re-upped several times
