Overall if the Panthers want to go places this season they’ll need Newton to step up in the passing game.

It’s always great to see backups take advantage of their opportunities with big games, and that’s exactly what Mario Addison (+2.8) did. Bryant McKinnie simply had no answer to his quickness, allowing immediate pressure on a couple of occasions. Overall Addison registered a sack, three hits and four hurries on just 27 rushes, showing the ability to get to the quarterback from both sides. There were a number of very impressive plays, but perhaps the best was his pressure in the second quarter (8.33) where he displayed a great spin move and got to the quarterback in less than three seconds. It was somewhat of a quiet day for Addison in run defense as he failed to register any stops but he graded positively as many times as he graded negatively. While he was sealed outside on one run in the middle of the fourth quarter (9.15), he was able to draw extra attention on the first play of the game (15.00). Pass rushing depth is always a good thing and Addison is providing that.

There’s a big reason why this Panthers defense has had a massive turnaround – the play of the defensive tackles. In this game it was second rounder Kawann Short (+2.5) who outplayed first rounder Star Lotulelei (-0.7).

- No Dolphin offensive player graded in the green, but seven graded in the red.

- The Panthers’ defense combined to miss just three tackles.

- The Panthers combined to knock Tannehill down 12 times.

Lastly- the game ball: Mario Addison

Smitty no longer being a deep threat is what is allowing defenses to put 8 and 9 in the box to shut down our running game.  We simply don't have a deep threat who scares anyone.  I think that Ginn was brought in to be that guy, but he's not.  He's been a very pleasant surprise in the passing game, but he's actually much better working underneath and middle routes, then using his speed after the catch.  He simply doesn't have the ball skills to track the ball and make a play on it down field unless he's just running down the field wide ass open.

Oh for real? How about that incomplete pass that was ruled complete?

Which one?  There was the deep ball to Wallace, then the one on the sideline on 3rd and long that allowed them to keep a drive going late in the 4th quarter and flip field position on us.  Both seemed clearly incomplete based on the "going to the ground" rule.

Blatant shot to the head eh?  Only blatant shot to the head I remember in that game happened to Cam and it wasn't flagged at all, much less picked up.

I don't see where some people getting that was helmet-to-helmet by Luke.  Refs shouldn't have even thrown a flag in the first place, and if they hadn't people wouldn't even be talking about helmet-to-helmet because it didn't happen.

It's completely stat driven, not a lot of context.  AGREED

Miami has a talented D and we took them too lightly, Cam made the throws when he needed too. NOT SO MUCH MIAMI IS BY NO MEANS TERRIBLE @ 5-5 (5-6) and @ HOME   I feel like our O has struggled a lot lately

Can't believe Ginn dropped such a beautiful deep ball.  THIS IS/HAS BEEN THE KNOCK ON GINN.   I HOPE HE GETS IT ALL TOGETHER (SPEED, HANDS, ROUTES, FOCUS)  BUT HE'S HAD THIS PROBLEM HIS WHOLE CAREER.   So I'm only cautiously optimistic when he drops a bomb.......... lol yeah right I'm like WTF TED

RR on weekly Sirius interview....the most important player in the game....ready ......drum roll.......Brad Nortman. He flipped the field 3 times with 2 50+ and 1 60+ net yard punts and another 1 inside the 10. In a defensive game, field position is is one of the most critical factors.

PFF is great for analysis of linemen on both sides that don't get a lot of attention during the game when your eye is naturally following the ball. Good for special teams analysis. But you always have to take their opinion on skill players with a grain of salt because play context and intangibles are taken out of the equation. Those are taken out of the equation for everyone, but if I'm not seeing how a guy like Ryan Kalil is playing on a given play as opposed to Cam, it's hard to argue with how well they say good or bad Kalil or others played.
