Worst Division in the League

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

NFC East, where a .500 team may very well win the division and an NFC team in another division with 9 or 10 wins may be left out.

The AFC is tough simply because there are only 4 teams in the entire conference with a winning record. But I'll go with the AFC South because while the Colts my be leading the division with a 7-4 record, their last two losses have been by 29 and 30 points, respectively.

If we're talking conference, no question the AFC is worse.

Average draft position per division if season ended today (assumes Redskins and Colts have their picks, not the reality of a damaged goods second year QB or a porn star averaging 3 ypc):

AFC South 12.25

AFC North 13.5

NFC East 14.25

NFC North 15.25

AFC East 15.5

NFC South 16.25

AFC West 19.75

NFC West 23.25

As if the above doesn't say it all, ZERO QB play, inner turmoil, no head coaches with anything remotely resembling playoff success, zero tradition, relatively little home field advantages, etc., the AFC South has it ALL.

As of right now, I think it's the AFC South.

Given how the Colts looked, you've got the Jags, Texans, and Titans.  Yeah, they technically have 2 of the playoff spots but each one of these teams is highly beatable on all grounds.

I know the NFCE is baaad, but the Cowboys, Giants and Eagles could beat all 4 of those teams right now.

I could buy the Giants, maybe the Eagles, but not the Cowboys. Four of their six wins are in their own awful division and the others were the Rams and Vikings.

The AFC South has two of the most awful teams (you could argue the NFC South does too) but the NFCE is the one that is the most awful top to bottom. I won't be surprised if 7-9 wins that division.

I can see your view so that makes sense.  The AFCS just strikes me as a soft division.  Every team is soft.  Tampa right now could beat every one of them lol

Valid.

Colts and Texans have both suffered from key injuries but I can see them being good again next season. Right now? Colts receivers couldn't catch a cold, defense couldn't stop a high school team and the run game depends on Trent Richardson (boy did they get suckered there).

Texans definitely need work this offseason but they aren't completely devoid of talent (Watt, for example). The Titans might be getting better sooner if Fitzpatrick can be consistent (I don't think Locker is good enough).

The Jags? Well...

The Titans are closer than people think.  I think Locker is a solid backup QB in the league but they need someone capable at the helm. Fitz has been able to show off more of the talent that O has recently.  I can see them becoming decent with Murray or Boyd actually.  For some reason, those 2 fit there.  I also think Munchak is a good coach and you've got Webster only in his 2nd year at GM.  He's shown an eye for some talent so far.  They're also a FA/trade QB candidate with the likes of Kirk Cousins or Cutler possibly.  I think that'd be a decent spot for Cutler next year for all sides that would be involved.  Back to Nashville for him and rid him from the Bears.

Colts are going to ok moving forward with Luck & maybe Pagano

Jags...in the beginning phases of a rebuild

Texans...are being blown up this offseason

    • No one is allowed to criticize XL unless you want serious clap back. He’s just one of those players that is immune to criticism on this board. But sorry that I don’t expect week in and week out drops, body catching, jumping for every ball when you don’t have to, horrible spatial awareness from a 1st round WR. He has so much to work on that it’s insane these issues didn’t drop him to atleast the 3rd round during the evaluation process. To make matters worse, the best RB today was a 4th round RB we could’ve waited later for and gotten someone like Cooper DeJean who filled a need in the 2nd who a lot of posters were pounding the table for including me.
    • Keywords there "Playoff offenses".  They might be the a huge piece, but in every case there, they are not the only piece.  might be a good run game, good QB, or great coaching.  Meanwhile yes we have a good RB, but we're still like 24th in Rush YPG.  Other Recieving options?  basically all rookies.  QB?  A guy who was benched after 2 games and just now learning the NFL.  Hell we have a rookie coach.  It. Takes. Time.
    • His route running has improved as the year has gone on, but the gator arms show up every week. From all accounts he works his ass off, so let's hope he continues to do so this offseason to improve his hands catching.
