Cam Newton is going to do something this season that no quarterback in the history of the franchise has ever done

I still say WR or TE is our biggest concern. Im not sold on LaFell and I think there are better options out there. There have been many times Cam has had to throw the ball away or force a pass because no one was open. Other than that Oline Oline Oline.

If ebron is there I the late 20s when we pick I don't see how we could pass him up. He is huge, catches everything even balls that seem impossible to catch, and has great run after the catch. Cam to him on deep balls or across the middle would be a beautiful thing and something that we are missing.

I wasnt trying to argue with the historian, the voice of reason if you will, my memory is a little cloudy most days....

I have my moments

I remember us having a decent number three that year. I'm thinking it was Donald Hayes but I'm not certain and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Over Smitty, Moose and Proehl in 03? Can't buy into that.

Heck in 99 we had Moose and Patrick Jeffers tearing it up.

Counting Olsen as a receiver.  In 2003 we had Jermaine Wiggins & Kris Mangum.  Not even close on TE in terms of receiving.

Obviously, the 2003 receivers were better, but I still think with Olsen this group overall deserves the nod.

2003 O-Line was significantly better which helped the running and passing game.  You have to remember all 5 guys played together all year.  We were very fortunate with injuries in that aspect (those trips down to the good doctor in Columbia may have helped too...).

The passing game didn't explode until the playoffs.  The receiving group was good but not nationally known until after the season.  People might forget, but going into the playoffs that year, most analysts would have ranked Dallas, Green Bay, Seattle, and definitely the Rams  receiving corps as better than us in the NFC.  Much like this year, the Panthers defense (and running game) was their calling card nationally going into the playoffs.  The receiving group was still very much under the radar.

Ultimately, the 2003 group will be seen as better (and rightfully so) than this group unless the 2013 team can go on a similar run.

The 2013 team definitely has as much overall talent (if not more) than the 2003 team.  It's easy in the nostalgia to forget the 2003 team was described as an 8-8 type team who caught some incredibly lucky breaks to go to 11-5 to even make the playoffs.

As magical as the regular season was that year, the playoff run was what made it so memorable because the team caught fire at the right time, and they certainly were deserving of being in the Super Bowl.

Regardless of the comparisons or opinions, I do think this year's receiving corp is certainly capable of being a part of a Super Bowl run.  Still a lot to happen before then though

I get what you're saying, but even with Olsen I'd still go with the 03 crew.

OL back then was better but have mercy, Todd Steussie was a penalty machine.

It's all just opinion, of course.

gotta protect Cam and make sure we run the ball. I would go OLINE OLINE OLINE and CB in the draft. our WRs are good bruh. thats a trade or a free agent move not a draft and develop. We finally have a GM that can pick em

LaFell has improved but I still don't trust him. I'm still having 'Vietnam' flashbacks from that Arizona game.

We need to draft either Penn State's Robinson, UNC's Ebron, LSU's Beckham, USC's Lee, etc.

I agree with the etc. being the likes of Vandy's Jordan Matthews and Rutgers' Brandon Coleman

Agreed, O-Line is definitely the biggest need. There's tons of reasons for it too.

#1 Protect Cam. He's our future and our guarantee to remain relevent for years to come.

#2 Run Blocking. We can't run block worth poop right now. It's making our running backs looks way worse than they are.

#3 Our Receivers. They aren't a great bunch, more like mediocre... but even they can get open if given time.

It would be a thing of beauty so see Cam throwing to a true weapon though. If only he was here ten years ago, he could of given Smith some Jerry Rice type numbers.
