I don't think Luke necessarily got the benefit of the doubt on the play last week, or against the Patriots. Against the Pats, it wasn't a question of whether he committed a penalty. He did. The refs waved it off because the ball was uncatchable. That's independent of what Keek did. 

 

Last week, the flag never should have been thrown. It was a clean hit that looked worse than it was.

I doubt that past plays will have any impact on the future in his case. he hits hard but he is not a dirty player and  doesnn't have a reputation of taking dirty or cheap shots.

With that said, I surely hope he is more careful in pass defense going forward.  Lester saved his butt by intercepting it and it still could have gone either way.  He is too good of  a defender that he can play straight up and still make plays.
