Anybody concerned about Shula...

Chud got hired and we were losing bad. I never could figure that out. Lovie Smith got fired and he won 10 games. There are some bad coaches and players that make big money, never have understood those contracts.

Chud, had the Cam/Cleveland connection, and the owner wanted to bring him back, thinking he'd make a splash on the offense, the way he did with Carolina.

Lovie Smith, is not being hired, cause Defensive Coaches are not in vogue right now. Maybe River Boat Ron can change that (we hope/knock on wood)?

Uhhh yeah... most of the game vs. the Dolphins I was ready to call Shula a flop still...

He still makes pretty questionable calls at times... like passing on first down (usually some sort of post or corner with a weak protection scheme that forces Cam to rush things) then running a flop-down draw on 2nd and 10, leaving us with 3rd and long...

Our run designs are pretty poor overall, and our run blocking scheme is worse... Most of our good runs this year have been on cutbacks or the RBs making their own way...

Shula being a HC at this point is pretty laughable... He's got a great young QB and some good supporting cast (great RB stable and decent WRs) but yet we struggle to run offense against teams like the Dolphins...

Watching the game this week, I think a lot of our offensive success comes from Cam alone and not the plays being called...

Shula wouldn't get a head coach job unless he could bring Cam with him. Sure the offense is efficient and Shula has done a good job but lets be honest the offense is working because of Cam. This offense is designed around him and might not translate.

I figure Shula might get a shot one day. I just don't see it for a few years.

Who is to to he would not design an offense sokewhere else around the quarterback and other pieces he has. Neither of us know if he could or couldn't

I'm not saying shula is a world beater by any stretch but we may have struck the balance between our offensive talent and the leadership of that talent without compromising either. As others have pointed out, it's not likely that he will prove he can stand alone and lead without the system we run and the talent we have.

He isn't going to go somewhere else just to be an OC unless he gets fired here so really the whole question is whether his experience as a HC at Alabama  prepared him for a HC job in the NFL.  HC has to do a lot more than a coordinator which is something Rivera has learned.

As for how it translates and whether a good OC makes a good HC, lets look at Chud for an indication.  How is that Cleveland offense working out? Top 3  like it was with Cam?  Sometimes the player makes the difference other times it is the system.

Funny but he has been  praised by several pundits who supposedly know offense like Gruden and Billick for being creative and innovative.  So I wonder if we should listen to them who both coached in the  NFL or we should listen to you who has done what????

The defense is the primary reason we are winning.  They don't allow many points, and they force a significant amount of turnovers and we get a significant amount of points off turnovers either via defensive score or a short field for the offense to drive.  In yards per game, our offense ranks near the bottom of the league.  Shula has done ok, but I doubt he is going to get a lot of recognition around the league for the offensive performance.

lol @ talking heads and keyboard warriors...

"creative and innovative" equates to a 30th overall ranking in passing and 9th in rushing... 26th overall offensively...

How long has it been since Gruden and Billick have been actively coaching, btw?

If you think our offense is doing their share to keep us in/win these games then I would agree...

If you think they are doing anything impressive, I would disagree.

No need to get personal.
