Our QB Spent His Day Off Feeding the Hungry

Hello, I am Jebediah, your Amish goat-milking farm hand from Western Pennsylvania.   You know that Western Pennsylvania produces more top quality QBs than there are fleas on a plowing Ox's back, so if your herd of goats needs milking....

Just kidding.  I do not need to put Andrew Luck down to pay respects to Cam.

I am still waiting for the people who defended Cam last season to attack those of us who criticized him then.  He is a different player now--the player we all knew he could be-- and a smart person would see the difference and think, "Now I get what they were saying."  His teammates, coaches, family, and Cam himself all admit to undergoing some rather dramatic changes this year.  I am elated about it and I think we finally have that franchise qb this franchise has never had.  This photo tells me that he gets it.   If you think he is fun this year, wait until the OL and WR upgrades in 2014.

The criticism of Cam last year by outside folks was ridiculous and absurd and reeked of "agenda." Now we are winning people such as yourself have nothing to say until we lose again.

A photo at a soup kitchen does not indicate anything but Cam having a good heart. Has nothing to do with being an Elite NFL qb.

Disclaimer

I have always thought Cam will become an elite qb, I am just pissed off with the people who gave him a hard time when we were losing and now have a change of heart when we are winning

Even Cam has said over and over that he took a long look at how he projected himself and made drastic changes.

And I can't think of a single one of the so-called "Cam nut huggers" that proclaimed he was perfect and didn't need to grow personally and improve professionally (though many still live and die by that particular strawman).

But there sure were a butt load of critics who loved to dissect from an extremely negative perspective his every move on the field and his every word off of it.

Name a 23/24 year old who doesn't go through changes? Defending the ridiculous criticism of Cam by praphrasing what others are saying about his changes shows me how arrogant some of you really are. How do you know what kind of "dramatic changes" they are talking about? It's clearly not any of the BS many was criticizing him over like the towel being on his head?

Also,  I am sure Luck himself is going through changes, like ALL 23/24 year olds. The difference is, how the media is projecting and spinning these QBs growing pains. Case in point: RG III. There are those who are now coming down on him, while others are defending his behavior and game. But with Cam it has been from day one, a concerted effort to scrutinize and critize his every move and treat him as if he's not human. Those who feel otherwise simply don't say anything or chime in with very little just not to rock the boat.

Feeling the need to nitpick everything Cam does and defend the actions by claiming it's because he was drafted at number one and not for the real reason behind the endless scrutiny and criticisms is, IMO, way more immature. Especially when Luck is also drafted at # 1 and you hear crickets when it comes to any level of criticism against his appearance, his ability to speak, and his attitude in front of the mike. All things Cam was scrutinized on.

THE FACT that he needed to go through changes is all that is important.  People were saying that Cam was great and the protection and WRs were the problem.  People who  know football and know the job of playing NFL QB realized that there was more to the problem.   Newsflash:  He has the same coaches, line, and weapons he had last year.  Cam's maturation was the difference--so anyone criticizing people for criticizing Cam before he made this self-motivated transition are just showing blind allegiance to his potential, not his performance.  He still has room to grow, which is exciting.  If he listened to some people, he would have blamed everyone else and not reflected enough to undergo the growth.  But if it makes you feel good to take one line out of context and run with it, then maybe you should take a few pointers from Cam and learn some honest reflection.

See MHS's comment above.

There were some of us who pointed out that Cam had things he really needed to work on....which Cam himself came out and talked about the same things....and worked on them.

There were also tons of people here who blamed everyone but Cam for every failure....the defense, the WR, the coaches, the OL.  Cam was never the reason for his play.

Glad that Cam is much more grounded, more secure, and more intelligent than most of those here.

This.

I do believe that Cam's PR people are doing a nice job getting this stuff out there. But, I believe it is so much more than PR. Cam really dies care deeply about others and looks to really enjoy doing these things.

Well done young man.

I'm willing to bet Cam's parents have had him (and his brothers) doing stuff like this for years.

And seriously, can Cam go do another ESPN or UA commercial or something. Seems like he's doing something different for the community every dang week. ICON Cam!!! You will be an ICON!!!

So him saying that means what, the media making a big deal over a towel on his head and the endless scrutiny of his demeanor when he loses a game was worth it?

I personally think it was a whole lot more than that.  I think he took a long hard look at his posturing and demeanor when things were not going well.  Quite frankly, I could see him asking vets like Gross, Kalil, Beason, etc how he could change his demeanor to portray as a better leader....guy genuinely wants to continue to improve the little things (on and off the field).

I agree that the media and other fans are unjustly hating on him.  They see little bits of his "antics".....superman pose, first down, towel on head, airplane to start, and view it as a diva showing off.  However, we get to see the real Cam becasue that is who we want to follow and know about.  When you do, you see the big kid who is just having fun playing a game.

He is my starting QB....hope he stays that for a damn long time....and I am damn proud to say it.

    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
    • I didn't say I would have done it. I was just saying that I can see why some in the FO considered it. Everything was done to give Bryce weapons. Solidify the interior line thru FA. Get XL at WR in round 1 and then get the most talented RB in round 2. Take a TE in round 4, etc They were probably "assuming" he'd make a complete recovery during the 2024 season. I'm a skeptical person. I wouldn't have assumed he'd be ok in 2024. I personally would have taken another position in the 2nd for that very reason. But, if I were "influenced" to take him I would've argued to keep him off the field, especially seeing how things were going for us record wise. Conventional Wisdom says most backs don't get back to normal until two years after the ACL surgery. He was injured in Fall 2023. Having him suit up in 2025 would have been almost 2 years since the original injury. You have him for 3 year on low contract. If he balls out, you resign him for a couple of more years b/c he'd only have 3 years of tread on the tires. If he's ok but not great you let him walk.
