PEDS in the NFL

I dont think you can vacate wins in the past for a violation in the present.  You'll never prove that PEDs played any part in the victory that happened weeks or months in the past.

I like the idea of taking draft picks from a team if there is an established pattern of violations on the team.  One bad test shouldn't qualify, but after the third there is clearly someone in a position of power turning a blind eye.

Start with forfeiting a 4th round draft pick.  Second player or offense on the team equals a 3rd, then a 2nd and so on.  Front offices would start policing this pretty strict if you did this.

Sounds like a equitable penalty...and will get the attention of the front office.

The only way I can see drastic team penalties is if they also require the teams to conduct regular testing. I don't believe the actions of one bad apple should punish entire fan bases and rosters. They also need to reassess the list of substances.

PED are ubiquitous in football..............I've worked out with many a pro football player over the decades............especially the linemen and backs.

They know the story and facts which are this......................when you get to the level of the NFL there is such a high level of talent and competition that if just one player uses PEDs it can provide the needed advantage over another competing for the same job.........as a result if one player does it, the others have to in order to keep up.

However, they will deny their use all day long.......and I can't blame them.

Imagine if you were a salesperson with a quota and another sales rep in your company was “cheating” in a manner that raised the quota that you couldn’t reach and resulted in your being fired? You either play the same game or quit and try to find a new job while wonder how to keep your family intact.

Okay let’s see what we are up against here……………now PEDs are used for many facets of playing from the line to skill players with factors such as ......strength, recovery, joint integrity, ballistic enhancement, mental awareness, fat reduction,, bulking, and pain management among some of the reasons.

The big three are Steroids, HGH and Insulin............but amphetamines, diuretics, thyroid and a host of street drugs like coke and dope are all used at times.

There is no way to police this effectively and many have no way to detect after their use like insulin.  Players today are too big, too fast and too strong for the human body to take the abuse that is dished out.....that tempts many to resort to such usage........

The only solution I can see to begin moving this destructive trend to other direction from the train wreck of injuries that will increase in future years that I can think of is this.........

Impose a weight limit on the players.

Let me give you an example................create a 10 year weight reduction for players............use the goal of say a 6ft player having a maximum weight of 200 pounds.......then every inch below 6ft you must weigh 10 pounds less and every inch above 6ft you can weight 10 lbs. more.........so a person at 6ft 4 inches could weigh a maximum of 240 lbs.

Let's say a player max right now is 6ft 330 lbs.......................by next year make the limit 300..............then the next year 275 and each year reduce it so that within 10 years a player must be 200 lbs. max at 6ft.

Why do this?

Simple.............First, most PEDs for speed and strength can't be used because it will create a size increase over natural training that would exceed most weight limits so it would be self-correcting without policing their use.

Second............Force is an equation of speed and mass upon impact............with less weight (mass) and a slight if any reduction in speed the collisions will be reduced in force enough to prevent some forms of injury that are plaguing the sport now.......................

Third..............It's time to get the fat off the field...............many of these players are unhealthy right now from the size they carry. The body is not meant for this amount of weight, especially the fat.

Fourth.............When players are lighter and in shape they will play better and be more athletic................I watched the old games in the 60's and 70s and the linemen were in shape and the level of playing on the lines is much better than today.

Fifth............Fans moaning and groaning that the game wouldn't be as exciting would never notice the different with a graduation reduction over a ten year period of weight reduction because the players are equal to each other in size on the field and the quality of play is relative to that new reference point in weight.

This idea is somewhat akin to what has happened in bodybuilding................back in the 60s drugs were common but even then the idea of muscle size and symmetry had a reasonable resemblance to the human body in peak shape with lean muscle mass and there was some respect and popularity of the sport which got the general public and other sports more interested in weight training.............

..........but today it is an out and out drug freak show that has hideous size and proportions that don't even look like humans anymore but like obese muscle masses..............as a result it is has turned back into a seedy subculture.......

In other words the football player is getting to the point of over excessive physical traits to maintain their performance against other on the field to the point where injuries will threaten teams to even finish the year intact...........

But it is human nature when something is on a roll financially to keep it going until something really bad happens.......

Remember NASCAR cup racing when they kept the cars going faster and faster above 200 mph.........then in the 80's Bobby Allison almost put a car in the grandstands at Talladega?

Well the insurance companies almost shut the whole sport down....................unless they slowed down the cars............

A few deaths on the football field in the future is where we are headed and then the insurance companies will raise holy hell and threaten to shut the whole thing down………….so  if we don't reduce the size of enhanced strength/speed combinations beyond what is naturally obtained by training without PEDs there is real chance of facing such a nightmare in the future.

Browner is getting popped for weed for the third time. That's why he's being suspended for a year.

The nfl has no interest in regulating PEDs.

1. The players aren't using them for a game day advantage per se. There's nothing they can pop real quick to hulk out. They use them so they can train harder during the offseason. If a player already has a perfect training regimen, perfect diet, and perfect sleep, then why not? There's no one in the nfl who wouldn't be there without something.

2. The most common ones are hgh variants, and that is used to come back from injury. I don't have a problem with it, but catching a flight to Switzerland or South Korea (like Sydney rice did before this season) to get procedures is very expensive. Teams don't cover hgh or stem cells for obvious reasons. It provides a major competitive advantage to the wealthier players. There's a reason RG3 and Peterson and welker come back within six months from ACL tears and random fourth string gunner doesn't.

3. The nfl can't regulate what the major culprits are. For testosterone you have to monitor year round which the players union won't allow. Hgh is spotty at best. No one is taking poo like clen or tren.

A quick list!

Clen/tren: no one cares about how cut they are. Maybe that old wide receiver for the redskins who we signed that's a model.

Test-e: many do after injury when they can't be tested during rehab. Rg3 was swimming in it last year. Makes you very puffy.

Hgh: rich players take it when injured

Enriched platelet therapy: Robert Anderson advertises it. No one knows a lot about it.

Stem cells: they uses these on Peterson. They don't advertise it.

Anavar: lol this isn't crossfit

Androgens: why would they take take androgens when they get all the free codeine they want?

Adrenalin: yeah probably but just for pain. I doubt many of these guys are low on it.

And if ever you get pissed off for some reason keep in mind in baseball it's totally alright for a pitcher to take an eight month surgery to repair his elbow and add five miles an hour to his fast ball. In fact it's part of the braves strategy.
