Our defense is a completely different unit with the guys mentioned above. Hurney never proved to have the talent evaluation skill to have any of those guys on the squad and he was too loyal to guys like Beason.

He picked Cam, Luke, and TD. Great decisions. But without Gettlemen IMO we aren't a playoff team.

Good drafter??? He's been gone for 1 year now, let's look at our starters:

Cam: Hurney draft pick, argueably obvious pick

Deangelo/Stewart: Hurney draft picks and currently occupying a large amount of our cap

Tolbert: Hurney FA aquisition, this was a huge one, I'll give him credit

Smith: Not a Hurney draft pick

Lafell: Hurney draft pick, took a while to become good

Ginn: Not a Hurney acquisition

Gross: Not a Hurney draft pick

Wharton: Hurney released, brought back by Gman

Kalil: Solid 2nd rounder for Hurney

Nate Chandler: Gman acquistion

Bell: Barely servicable Hurney pick

Olsen: Great Hurney trade

Defense:

Hardy: Great Hurney late round pick

Star: Not a Hurney pick

Dwan: Combination Hurney/Gman, Gman got him to stay

Johnson: Great Hurney Late rounder

Davis: Great Hurney Pick

Kueh: Semi obvious Hurney pick, he loves LB/RB first round

Klein: great Gman Late rounder

Munnerlyn: Solid 7th round Hurney Pick

White: Great FA Gman pickup

Lester: Great Gman FA pickup

Mitchell: Great Gman FA pickup.

So after not even one calendar year of Hurney being gone, that leaves us with:

Hurney 14 starters, Gman: 9 starters

Half the team is Gman's, and it's been 1 calendar year, yes Hurney had some picks in the draft, but the fact we have several years worth of drafts with 1 or 0 players still on the team or in the NFL is terrible.

Gross was drafted by Hurney and Chandler was signed last year as well too

Well you would need to point out this documentation on the drafting of Cam

There were definitely stories about Rivera being part of the pre-draft process with Newton.

I'd add that Chudzinski was thoroughly his call. Brought him over from the Chargers.

Star would def been our pick even if brandon bean got the job or whatever the hell is name is.

The rest of the guys you mentioned are debatable. Hurney always had a knack for signing bargain basement guys like mitchell and had been trying to get a burner like Ginn for a while. Last year it was Jacoby Jones who he was after.

I'm fine with the way things turned out but Gettleman is not the lone or even main reason for our current record.

Not taking anything away from G-man, I just tend to give more credit to the coaching staff and existing players stepping up. Everyone deserves credit but not one person deserves it all.
