Hypothetical: Mike Wallace Catches the Bomb at the End

Recommended Posts

Agreed.

Can't believe that they didn't have at least one guy way back and had told him, "don't let Wallace get deep"

I'm glad it worked out but that would have been crushing.

From an Observer article on the play

Mitchell, who said he played the second half with a lower-body injury that will require an MRI on Monday, said the Panthers were in a cover-2 when Wallace turned an out route into a post.

“When somebody runs a post 30 yards downfield and they’ve got the time to throw it, it’s going to be a 1-on-1,” Mitchell said. “I don’t mind it at all. My coaches trust me to not let people make catches back there. That’s what happened.”

For the life of me I will never understand why we weren't in prevent defense.  Miami didn't have any timeouts.  Rivera needs to get his poo together on that one.

I don't think he scores.

But the bigger question is, on a play where the only chance the Dolphins have is to score a TD, how does Mike Wallace get behind our defense?

Why were there not three defenders with their backs to the endzone?  Mind boggling defensive breakdown with shades of Nakamura and ATL.

Every other play on that drive they chucked him at the line to throw him off the route, and had deep help behind the corner as insurance. The result was Wallace's impact being completely negated for the most part since he's not a physical receiver and had trouble recovering from the initial jam. That play was the only snap on that drive where Wallace was able to avoid the chuck. Ran a slant look that turned into a deep post/go (can't remember if he cut in or not), and the Corner (was it Florence?) didn't react on time, by the time Wallace made the cut on the go route the Corner was already a step or two out of the play. Not sure how he was able to run right by Mitchell though.

Yeah I didn't realize when watching it live but I re watched the game last night and realized he wouldn't have scored. It does worry me that it was even that close. Never should a WR get behind you in that situation.

Also, i just want to point out that after tannehill got sacked to end the game. If you watch Cam on the sidelines he doesn't celebrate he immediately walks over to tannehill and picks him up and pats him on the head. Just another example of Cam being alot better of a person than the media gives him credit for. Brady has made a fool of himself the last two weeks but you won't hear a peep.

That is pretty cool of him. The thing I like is he is maturing and soon he will help dominate the league from the quarterback position. All the haters will continue to poke but they won't be able to do anything about it. This year is just the beginning of great things to come.

Would be nice if Michell took responsibility for his terrible angle that made that play possible.

The play extended forever and the guy was playing hurt, not going to blame his terrible angle on a random jump ball.

Of course not. No one really will because it's been decided on the Huddle that Mitchell is a GREAT player which means all his plays are GREAT. His non-GREAT plays all have a reason.

If it had been a BAD huddle player it would have been a BAD play no matter what.

Huddle false narratives are no better than ESPN's.

Go back and look at the play and watch how long it is before Tannenhill throws it up.  If you've ever played football before, even the backyard variety, you know how hard it is to cover 1 on 1 when the quarterback has forever to throw, not to mention if you're hurt and covering one of the fastest guys in the NFL.  Wallace was running an improvised route, Mitchell had to guess where he's going to be.

As for "good Huddle" and "Bad Huddle" players, there is a reason Fua and Nakamura were cut, and Mitchell is a starter, and it's not based on what the Huddle thinks.

Two things look like we were running a zone on that play , after wallace got pass 15 yards Flo let him go...........i could be wrong.

And the bigger question is even if he catches the ball and gets close to scoring, with the way the refs were calling the game do they stop the clock to review which gives miami time to run a play?
