Wow, nice job... I don't even want to know what you spent on all that!

I do think you were kinda harsh on the little guy with the whole quitting thing as a vehicle to get the pictures off the wall, but it's nothing a few hundred hours of therapy won't fix, LOL.

You did a great job on that room, and I loved the story leading up to it. It might have been just a little harsh, but that harshness will probably pay dividends later in his life. And like you said, you had to take the pictures down anyway.

Julius Peppers..... He never quit,

You didn't tell him that Peppers takes plays off? ;)

The story behind the project;

Well my son and I had gotten home that night from having my football teams cookout. He had been running around all day, playing football and having fun.

Well every night he knows we do 30 pushup's, its what we do. That night he started pouting, and didnt want to do the push ups, so I called him down to his room and started pulling pictures off of his carolina blue walls.

I look at him and use this as an oppertunity to teach him about hard work, I start saying; you see Steve Smith, he never quit, Julius Peppers..... He never quit, DeAngelo Williams, do you know why he is great? Because he never quit, and I continue on as I take each player pic off the wall.... (now before you just think I am being a dick, our family motto is; Coopers never quit)- I go on and continue pulling all the pictures off the wall, he is crying saying I WILL NEVER QUIT DAD- I WONT QUIT-- I tell him he already has......

I told him to sit on his bed and think about why he quit on me, then go to bed...

I leave the room and the wife is looking at me like Im crazy (i am) -- I then smile and whisper to her; "Im going to make his room special, and paint it, I had to get the pictures off the walls anyways. :D

So when he left his for N.C. the next day his room was stripped and his pride was broken.

I am sure when he gets back and se's the new paint + Jerseys+ shelves+ black bins, and the whole setup he will be excited....

I hope he is, Im excited for him!

I dont think he will ever forget that night, BUT I am sure he will forever remember the night next week when he see's his new room for the 1st time..

(plus I doubt he ever quits on me again) :)

Good thing you didn't have a picture of Kerry Collins on that wall.....

Not sure about the whole tactic you used there that night but the room sure looks good.

THANKS guys!

Dont worry, the little dude isn't all screwed up in the head. We talked about it the next day at length and I told him I was sorry but he needed to understand that when you have a responsibility you cant just put it aside.

Now..... If I can just get that other darn jersey to show up!!!

I was about to say man that was harsh. You sounded like one of those delusional parent types but what you did was very clever.

Nice job on the room btw. Alot of cool things in there he could keep when he out grows his fandom stage. He should like it.

As a football coach I look for a way to use every situation as motivation...

That's harsh parenting...? Geez... no wonder today's kids are all screwed up.

No kidding, lol..

I thought it was a brilliant way to get the message across and to use solid examples of people he respects (we all know kids don't respect their parents =P)...

May have been a little cheesy at most, but harsh? paaaaleeease...

    • Corbett knows he needs to take a prove it deal and I think he will.  I watched an interview and he was convincingly adamant he wants to stay.  Two different injuries in two years was bad luck.  It's not like it was the same thing.  He knows the game and figures to end his career in a place where he is happy.  You can't really compare how Bryce did with Mays compared to AC.  AC was hurt week 5.  Bryce was on the bench after week 2 and didn't return until week 8. Mays is basically under team control next year as a RFA.  We could offer the right of first refusal for 3m.  I'd offer a 2 year deal which averages a little higher so you can manipulate the cap on his deal.  Additionally, I'd resign Corbett to a team friendly deal.  Many forget he has positional versatility like BC.  Corbett is only one year older, is two inches shorter, about 10 pounds heavier, and has arms that are one inch longer.  Corbett has played LT in college and guard/center in the NFL.  Ideally, bring back all three, but if BC gets big time $$$ AC and CM can battle for center and the other becomes a swing lineman. If we cut bait on Yosh Nijman we may be able to keep all three.  I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat.
    • As fans, we often exaggerate how bad our team owner is because we are so invested and focused on our team. We don't really see how bad other team owners, like Woody Johnson or Robert Kraft, because we are focused on the Panthers.
