We lead the NFL at time of possession. This season people were concerned that Shula's play calling would limit a high powered offense. While Chud ran a gimmicky high risk/high reward offense the past couple of seasons, Shula has committed to longer, more sustainable drives. He has learned how to effectively manage a crowded backfield for running backs. The Panthers have been able to move the chains down the field 10 yards at a time, while cramming it down their opponents throats.

Simply put: shorter yardage plays + chewing up the clock + tiring out the opponents offense + keeping the opponents offense off the field = wins
