Another MNF Controversy?

Mr. Scot

Obviously I'm not inside the Panthers' locker room and have no idea if they talk about crap like this - but hopefully these "excuses" for the Patriots instead of giving the Cats their due credit keep the team motivated and hungry.

That BS Colin KRAPernick said about the Panthers after they got beat really rubbed me the wrong way, too. Hopefully it pushed the right buttons for the panthers.

So, rewatching the entire final drive.  Here's what I see (time sequenced)

0:59 - 1st and 10 from their own 20, incomplete pass intended for Julian Edelman; 4 seconds off the clock

0:55 - 2nd and 10 from the 20, incomplete pass intended for Danny Amendola; Tom Brady takes a hit from Dwan Edwards and Charles Johnson; 4 seconds off the clock

0:51 - 3rd and 10 from the 20, incomplete pass intended for Shane Vereen; Brady takes another hit from Dwan Edwards; 4 seconds off the clock

0:47 - 4th and 10 from the 20, Brady completes to Rob Gronkowski for 23 yards; Patriots call their first time out; 7 seconds off the clock

0:40 - 1st and 10 from their own 43, incomplete pass intended for Rob Gronkowski; 5 seconds off the clock

0:35 - 2nd and 10 from the 43, Brady completes to Danny Amendola for 13 yards; Patriots call their second time out; 6 seconds off the clock

0:29 - 1st and 10 from the Panthers 46, pass nearly intercepted by both Captain Munnerlyn and Melvin White; 6 seconds off the clock

0:23 - 2nd and 10 from the 46, incomplete pass intended for Shane Vereen; 6 seconds off the clock

0:17 - 3rd and 10 from the 46, incomplete pass intended for Aaron Dobson; penalty called for pass interference on Melvin White, Patriots get the ball at the Panthers 36; 5 seconds off the clock

0:12 - 1st and 10 from the 36, Brady completes to Shane Vereen for 11 yards; Brady takes another git from Dwan Edwards; Patriots call their final time out; 8 seconds off the clock but the refs add 2 seconds back

0:06 - The Panthers call time out before the play is run to adjust their defense

0:06 - 1st and 10 from the 25, Brady completes to Aaron Dobson for 7 yards; 3 seconds off the clock

0:03 - 2nd and 10 from the 18, Brady pass is intercepted by Robert Lester; penalty for pass interference is called on Luke Kuechly but then waved off after the ball is deemed uncatchable

Game Over

Things I noticed:

- Fair amount of holding, some of it arguably flagrant, on the part of the Patriots goes uncalled on this drive.  On one play, Mario Addison is almost tackled by Nate Solder, but no flag.

- The Panthers argued the ball was uncatchable on the penalty against Melvin White, and may have had a point.  It was close.  I could see it either way.

- Also notable, the penalty occurs quite clearly at the 35 yard line.  Dobson is running right on the line when he goes for the ball, but the 'spot of the foul' is set by the refs at the 36 yard line.

- On the completion to Vereen at 0:12, the clock runs to 0:04 but the Patriots call time out with 0:06 left, so the refs put 2 seconds back on the clock.

And one final note: I've seen that final play a hundred times now and I have no idea how anything but pure Patriot homerism leads anyone to conclude that Gronkowski could have gone through both Luke Kuechly (even if he wasn't grabbing him) and Robert Lester to catch that pass, which was obviously very poorly thrown.

I honestly think it's quite likely that Brady just threw the pass in the general area deliberately trying to draw a flag but his strategy backfired.  Now, you'll never hear him or the Patriots admit that, but I'd say it's a darn good theory.

Bottom Line: We win.  They lose.  That's it.  Patriot homers can cry from now till the end of time and the result won't change, nor should it.

If journalists can't be objective then they lose my respect, period. I don't read for opinions if I wanted that then I would go to the other teams message board.

I can't tell if this is a result of Schefters preference in teams or if it's merely to stir the pot. This is basically the medias new Fail Mary. So it's difficult to tell.

Just read a Person tweet that states that clock operators are league employees, not stadium employees.  Douchebags just need to let this crap go already.

Schefter's tweet refers to the "Panthers clock operator" so I'd guess he doesn't know this.

(not like it's his job or anything)

Some fun responses to Schefter on Twitter, but no one yet has asked Schefter how Brady was supposed to "get another shot" after the final pass was intercepted
