Why do they need a dude with a machine gun at the stadium? I didn't see a dude like that when I was at a game in Baltimore, and Baltimore I know is worse than Miami

That type and degree of security presence at a large public gathering (even a half empty stadium), especially in a high profile international gateway, has nothing whatsoever to do with local crime rates.  They have their reasons, and they are likely to be very good ones.
