Steelers fans are everywhere because 1) the city of Pittsburgh has been abandoned at a pace similar to Detroit, but for the last 60 years. 2) people with lower IQs produce more offspring than those of normal or higher intelligence.

Combine 1 and 2 and you have a legion of pot bellied heathens wearing size XXXXXXXXL #7 jerseys and wiping sweat with an old yellow and black shop towel.

I remember in summer 2012 I was driving through Wisconsin and stopped to grab a quick bite.

I saw a guy come in with his kid - the kid was wearing a black and blue shirt with Cam's picture on it and "NEWTON" across the back. As I was leaving, I stuck my fist out for a fist bump and said "keep pounding, little man."

The dad had no idea what I was talking about.

When the Red Sox bandwagon was huge from '04-'09 I hated them.  Then they slowly disappeared from '10-'12 and I was glad.  Some returned this year but not nearly to the same numbers.  They were really flippin' annoying and made the die hards among us look bad.  After all out fanbase had been through I did not think these "pink-hatters" deserved to enjoy it with us.

 

The situation with the Panthers is a little different though.  The Sox had been around for over a hundred years and had a very strong and passionate legion of fans even without the pink hats.  The Panthers are not in the same situtation.  After only a mere eighteen seasons, only four of which have been winning seasons (and never back-to-back), this is a fanbase that has never been fully built.  It takes some time to convert people that have been fans of another team their entire lives.  The way this team is built for the long haul, we might finally have a group of guys that can do it.

I don't think the bandwagon's hit nationally yet. What we're dealing with now are local fair-weather fans coming out of the woodwork. Generally I don't mind and invite as many fans as possible, but people around here tend to be very self-deprecating about the team when they're losing and that's the worse. The same folks who put the team down and say the panthers suck normally reclaim the team when it's easy to do and that's the only downside for me.

I welcome all fans. I'm tired of our home stadium getting owned by opposing fans. If it takes 74,000 bandwagoners to keep those losers in cowboy jerseys out of my stadium then I'm all for it.

I just ask for those bandwagoners to at least acknowledge they werent fans from day 1
