Cody Zeller

I'm a big Cody Zeller fan.  Definitely wasn't excited about it when we drafted him, but he really showed a lot of promise in the Summer League.  I think if Clifford would just play him a little more, we'd see him shake off the rookie rust and start showing what he can do!  I think he's our PF going forward... unless we grab a franchise center and move Al to the 4.

BUT, as I said, Zeller has that ability.  He is fluid, fast on his feet, and quick.  He looks clunky when he makes bad decisions - trying to force up shots underneath, jumping in the air without anywhere to go with the ball, etc.  His movement isn't an issue, IMO, he's just playing indecisive and reckless once he does makes a decision.

But again, I go back to confidence.  If he gets that, he will be what everyone has been hoping he would be, and likely more.

Those are good points, the jumping into the air with nowhere to go is the worst thing he could do when he does it lol.

Yeah his confidence needs to improve and that may only come with increased playing time, after seeing Anthony Bennett the other night when he got more playing time I think they should give it to him and let him learn on the job.

I agree that with the minutes he gets, establishing a rhythm would be tough.

They've already blown a top 3 & top 8 pick on Biz & Zeller plus spent big money on Al....

If they bring in another expensive vet it better be a scoring machine to stick in the back court with Kemba

How can you say that Zeller was a blown pick before the All-Star break in his ROOKIE season?  Haha That's crazy, and is jumping the gun big time.  I think Cody is going to end up being a good player for us, and likely our starting PF in the future.

Biz, on the other hand... Biz Biz BIz... I'm afraid we've seen his ceiling.  He was a risky pick with tremendous potential upside.. but he's just never going to develop into a legitimate offensive threat.  He'll always be a top-notch shot blocker... and those are good to have.  But I'll agree he certainly wasn't worth a top 10 pick.

I didn't mean they are busts....

I meant they've already invested several high picks & a max FA to PF/C...

Drafting or signing another would be a waste, especially when the team is void of perimeter scorers.

Especially when you check out his Per 36 and see what he could accomplish if Coach Cliff gave him a chance.

    • I find it more like now that I have been forced to watch Young so much it isn’t as much of a shock to my senses.   Desensitized they call it.   For real, it just looks normal almost now. Where the first game of 2023 I wasn’t sure what I was looking at it was so out of bounds for NFL type play. I literally couldn’t make sense of what I had seen vs Atlanta that first week.
    • Lynch in SF. Great is subjective but he has done pretty well there.
    • Sure, except Stroud has the ability to stretch the field with deep passes. He did that often last night with ease, but couldn’t connect on many due to being flustered by the defense. BY9 gets flustered and can’t throw screens, let alone even think about any deeper passes. Stroud would’ve changed the franchise and done more with the situation last year. My thought at least.    the hope is that last year showed tepper that he needed to step back from football decisions. There’s a positive in most situations and maybe we’ll see a new tepper in the near future.
