Steve Smith Career Watch

It all depends on how long Smitty is planning to play. On this current team, it may been hard to reach 1,000 yards in a season again. It's not a bad thing. This is a very balanced team. Go look at the recieving stats for us this year and they are soo close to each other. I believe he can get in the HOF based on what he has done already but a nice playoff run and a ring would definitely help his cause. currently he is on pace for what 700-800 yards this year. I mean it's possible and I want him to have a bust in Canton

Let me start off by saying I think Smith is a HOF-caliber receiver. Duh.

But unfortunately, a lot of people in this thread are making the mistake of comparing his stats with players in prior eras, and that's just not fair. It has gotten so much easier to throw the football in recent years it's not even funny. And the reality is, the HOF voters are very hesitant to put in WRs. It took Carter how many tries? And Tim Brown is still waiting, and you've gotta think after he gets in, and Marvin Harrison, they're gonna put another hold on it as they don't want to put in too many receivers all at once. Guys like Terrell Owens and Randy Moss will probably have to wait a few ballots, at least.

The problem with Smith is he has been held back by the QBing his entire career. If he'd had a quality passing QB (not to say Delhomme was always bad, but let's be real - he was average or slightly above average at his very best, and Smith and Moose carried him) during some of his peak years, he'd be a much stronger candidate statistically. I maintain, however, that he physically hasn't lost much, if anything, and Cam is just too eager to run, like most athletic QBs. I'm hoping the organization can at least see on film that he's still got it, and he'll get at least one more season to reemerge.

But just looking at the chart, if Isaac Bruce is 3rd all-time in yards, and he's going to have to wait a while to get in (if he gets in at all)...Smith is never going to be a lock. Especially with his lack of TDs.

TO and Moss are first ballots.

Cam too eager to run?  What?  I agree with most of your post other than that and don't understand where you came up with it.

I came up with it because he misses plenty of open receivers based on his eagerness to take off and run.

He misses WRs bc he gets lazy...

Cam doesn't look to run early. If anything, he sits in the pocket too long. He has a slow clock

if smitty breaks the top 10 AND wins a ring or two (especially if he makes notable plays on the national stage in playoffs and superbowls) i'd say he's a lock.

that's a big if though.

I don't want to hear any more of this shyt suggesting Cam and Smitty aren't going to win a Lombardi or two together.

Cris Carter was never the best receiver in any season he was in the NFL. Moss, Owens and #89 can say that they were which will be in their favor

When Carter hung his cleats up.....only Rice had better career numbers

And Cris Carter never played a season Jerry Rice wasn't suited up....so Rice happened to be in his prime then. Carter did lead the league in TDs several seasons

So I still don't see how problem children like Owens are first ballot guys....

If he gets 1500 more yards...he'll get in...make take a few years for sure....but they'll push him in....he's an electric player that has played with little to no talent at the QB......been a beast most of his career....I'm guessing about his 4 or 5th year he'll get in....KEEP POUNDING!!!!!

I seriously doubt it...see Cris Carter

Both are 2 and 3 respectively in all time receiving yards only behind jerry rice. Cris carter is 9th on that list. They are first ballot

Edit: they almost best him statictisally in every category except for receptions and only moss is under him. TO while having problems is one of the best receivers of all time
